With all my heart I hope that he continues to have an amazing recovery. But we shouldn't kid ourselves. He has a long, long way to go before he's out of the woods. Even if he makes it, he'll never have a truly normal life for a horse. That ankle will be fused and he won't have any movement in it. Not being a vet, I couldn't say if he'll have some degree of pain in that leg for the rest of his life. He'll certainly be subject to arthritis there.
At this early stage, it's uncertain if he could ever be turned out in a paddock, let alone mount a mare.
There are still so many things that could go wrong, so we all need to continue to cross our fingers and hope for the best -- and pray if we are so inclined. :)

Yes ....... I hear you, you are correct.
My fingers here are crossed, Wolfstar.
I know the problems with this kind of injury. The doctors will know so much more shortly as they take a look at the injury after removing the cast/wrapping.
I pray for this animal........ and, I very seldom pray....... but Barbaro gets my prayers.
Please be well ................... and I so much appreciate your concern for this animal and also appreciate your very good heart.
