At Least 4 Run Over Outside Ga. McDonald's From Associated Press May 23, 2006 2:11 PM EDT COVINGTON, Ga. - A driver ran over at least four people, including two children, in the parking lot of a McDonald's restaurant Tuesday, authorities said.
The driver of the vehicle was in custody and the victims had been transported to a hospital, said Covington-Newton County Police Department spokesman Mike Smith.
There was no immediate word yet on how seriously the victims were injured.
The exact circumstances of the crash also were unclear, and police did not immediately say whether they believed the crash was intentional.
The man, identified by police as Lanny Barnes, 46, has had mental difficulties, his mother, Mary, told The Associated Press.
"He's been suffering with depression for years," she said, her voice shaking after being told by a reporter what happened. "Lord have mercy."
The crash happened at a McDonald's in Covington, about 30 miles southeast of Atlanta.

Aren't folks who suffer from depression more inclined to be suicidal rather than homicidal?
Not trying to be funny, it just strikes me as strange that someone suffering from depression would take it out on other folks. Unless they are already setting up a defense.
Prayers for all involved, this is a sad situation.
