I guess it is possible he was set up...but I'm voting for either stupid or assumed bulletproofness.

That should move him up to a first round draft pick. Looks like he will have a long career in the NFL.

That should read "former UT running back".

He wasn't allowed to attend the White House function for the National Championship team, he wasn't given a National Championship ring, and he didn't workout this spring with the team.

From what I understand, he was headed towards a jr. college as a result of "academic" problems, although it sounds more like he had problems with responsibility, i.e., pissing away a future career.

I don't think he was setup, I think he made some poor decisions, and that was why he was booted off the team long before now.

I'm just waiting to hear somebody on TV say "he turned to drugs because UT kicked him out or Mack Brown kicked him off the team and wouldn't give him a National Championship ring". Anybody but Taylor will get blamed for this.

Parents to blame for naming son "Ramonce".

"My name is Sue, how do you do!"

How long ago was he kicked out? Did he play in the title game?

He should be put to death.

If we want to win the War on Drugs we are going to have to make possession and especially trafficking a crime punishable by death.

No, he wasn't set up. He's a stupid guy who is emulating Ricky Williams and throwing away a potential lucrative career in football. The guy would rather get doped up and waste his talent, flushing his free college education down the drain. He's a bum and I don't feel one bit sorry for him. Good riddance, Texas!

How long ago was he kicked out? Did he play in the title game?

He scored a touchdown in the second quarter.

When he was "excused" from spring training to focus on his academic career, I figured at the time that he had flunked out.

The fact that he was booted before the spring semester and not before spring training like I thought (I just saw Brown's statement) would lead me to believe that he had some personal problems. The White House trip/Ring presentation was in February I believe, well after the spring semester had started, and the fact that he wasn't allowed to participate in either of those by Mack Brown would lead me to lean towards non-academic problems.

This is Mack Brown's official statement from a few days ago:

“Ramonce was excused from the team prior to the spring semester to focus on his academics and has not participated in any team functions since that time. We are aware of this recent situation and will follow it as the legal system runs its course. At this time, we will not consider reinstating him to the team.”

You can read that a lot of ways, but either he failed or he caused problems and the academic thing was a "thank you for your time here, don't let the door hit you where the good lord split you".

Yes, he did play THE game:

Brown excuses Taylor from spring practice
Texas coach Mack Brown has excused running back Ramonce Taylor from spring football so he can focus on academics...Taylor scored 15 touchdowns last season, including a 30-yard scoring run in the Rose Bowl against Southern Cal, which Texas won 41-38. The win gave Texas its first outright national championship since 1969.
