DURHAM -- Lawyers for accused Duke lacrosse player Reade Seligmann want a judge to hold hearings Thursday on whether to compel police and prosecutors to turn over the evidence they've compiled while investigating the alleged gang rape.
The motions have to be heard now because there's a risk that evidence that could exonerate Seligmann "will spoil if not preserved properly," lawyers Kirk Osborn and Ernest Conner said. They said that could happen due to political pressure Durham officials might be putting on investigators.

I watched an innocent man talking to the press yesterday.
You can see it in his eyes.
mark. Patrick Baker.
Excellent. Let's hope the judge knows what's going on and grants that motion.
Beker didn't mention whether the "said she was raped by 20 men" comment, overheard by Duke officer Day, was said by Durham police Sgt. Shelton or not.
We know DNA samples are delicate for want of a better word. They don't want to lose the DNA of the boyfriend. There's supposed to be a chain of custody on these samples. When NiFong personally picked up the report, did he also pick up the samples?? He should not be handling it.
I read where another candidate can run against Nifong and have their name included on the ballot, if they file by the end on June, as a Republican?
I would like to suggest that the Republicans get together and recruit Freda Black to run again against Nifong. Black pulled in a very good percentage of the Democrats in the primary. If Black would choose to run as a Republican, and she kept a good percentage of those who supported her in the primary, and in addition, she were to capture a sizable majority of the Republican voters, then maybe we would see Nifong defeated at the polls in November.
I would also think she would receive a lot of campaign contributions for her campaign from the many people who are disgusted with the way this DA has handled this case.
If not Freda, then please, I call on the Durham County Republicans put up another candidate?
I think state law prohibits her from running once she lost the primary.
They are; so far he hasn't coughed up anything.
North Carolina is an open files discovery state; they are entitled to every scrap of paper they have.
Wonder what he got his indictment is.
Let's hope for more bad news for Nifong today.
so the defense has not seen a scrap of the DA's evidence yet, but they are entitled to under NC law?
My guess is that this accuser will never go on the stand. She couldn't hold up to cross examination by a second grader. Too many lies from the start.
Yep; we're an open files state.
He has said he's "not finished."
His problem is that he was already suppose to show the Grand Jury exculpatory evidence and he didn't do it.
The indictment of Evans, for sure, may be thrown out.
i am sure the defense attys are aware of what they are entitled to and will go after it with no holds barred. more power to them. cough it up, nifong.
