BEARS killed and ate a monkey in a Dutch zoo in front of horrified visitors.
Several Sloth bears chased the Barbary macaque into an electric fence, where it was stunned. It recovered and fled onto a wooden structure, where one bear pursued and mauled it to death.
Witness Marco Berelds posted a detailed report on the incident, including photos, on a Dutch Web site. He said one Sloth bear tried unsuccessfully to shake the monkey loose after it took refuge on the structure, built of crossing horizontal and vertical poles.
Ignoring attempts by keepers to distract it, the bear climbed onto a horizontal pole, and, standing stretched on two legs, used its sharp canines to pull the macaque, which was shrieking and resisting, from its perch.
The bear then brought the animal to a concrete den, where three bears ate it.
Last week in my backyard...I saw a Hawk attack a pidgeon and eat it alive....
Cool. I saw a bald Eagle sitting in my tree a few years back chowing on a mallard duck.
One of my cats caught and devoured a lizard. The horror....
LOL. Great pic.
My dog killed 2 baby possums.
Kinda sucks, they were eating the dogsh!t that I usually have to pick up.
The Robins have been terrorizing the worms in my yard for years!
I suppose we're left to figure out for ourselves what these animals were doing together in the same cage.
I watched one of my dogs dig up a mole today. She crunched it's bones up good and walked away.
Killin for the pleasure of killin.
You can train your mutt to pick that, don't ya know!
I thought it was a dog eat dog world... hmmm.
I wonder if they would put a Gorilla and a bear together. That would make it more fair.
They say lions smother their prey before they rip it apart.
Uh-huh.
Kinda like my cat and the birds. If I could just get him to target the darn starlings.
Bear: "You throw poop at me! You throw poop on my WHOLE FAMILY!"
"They say lions smother their prey before they rip it apart."
with kisses I'm sure :P
That was one of the reasons I wanted all the libs to follow thru on their plans to move to Canada. Bear food.
Does this Dutch zoo hold these animal "ultimate fighting" competitions often?
