By now, after 9/11, Katrina, the spending binge, energy crisis after energy crisis, numerous other neglected problems and the current mutual two-party accommodation of this illegal alien invasion, it has become abundantly clear that the two party system is not serving the interests of the average American.
We need to get out of this two-party cartel while we still have a chance before this Open Border/One World Order takes over and America loses the rest of all the characteristics that made it unique.
Have the past three decades of redistricting, "motor voter" legislation and illegal immigration reduced the ompetitiveness of American elections and diluted the power of the average American voter beyond repair?
Where's a viable third party? Where are the Libertarians? Why aren't they taking greater advantage of this mess? Where else can we go?
This is the critical question facing all Americans who have had it up to hear with the elistist, corrupt, entrenched, borderline-traitorous two party duopoly we have now -- a duopoly that offers no prospect of self-reform.
Suggestions?
Out of expediency, the best bet is to apply pressure to the Republican party (for example, to push it in the direction of an expanded RLC). Run and endorse better candidates under the R label. The system is not going to change, so you have to work within it to do what you can.
Voting CP or LP is clearly not an option.
Every time America has tried to break into a three party system, whether through the Populists or the Progressives ("Bull Moose") or through Ross Perot's Reform Party, the effort has quickly collapsed and the normal balance of a 2 party system has been restored.
It is best to latch onto one of the major political parties and change its direction. President Reagan took this approach.
Regards, Ivan
Nutjobs like H. Ross Perot that split the conservative vote, letting a DemocRAT like Slick Willie gain the Presidency with a 43% popular vote.
What was the last major party to fade off the political map and be replaced? IIRC, that would be the Whigs, whose death knell was the election of (former Whig) Abraham Lincoln in 1860. Since then, the two parties have reversed positions - In 1860 the Republicans were the party of the strong central government, high taxes and protectionism while the Democrats were the party of decentralization, low taxes and free trade.
Consider how well off you are in spite of the fact your political wishlist may not be as complete as you would like it to be.
Consider that history is an ongoing process and takes a long time..... all time. What you didn't get yet could still come to pass in one form or another.
Consider Bill Clinton and all the trouble he caused and is still causing America.
I hear what you and others here are saying. But I can't do this anymore. I can't in good conscience accommodate a very corrupt and unprincipled GOP anymore. Where's the incentive for them to change if principled conservatives (and frustrated libertarians) keep voting for them? After all of their incompetence over the past ten years since the Republican takeover of Congress -- notably the surge in government spending -- how will continuing to vote for this party change anything. I'm utterly unimpressed by what the true-blue conservative, RSC-types have accomplished. Nothing, as far as I'm concerned. Why continue to reward failure, lack of principle and (now) lack of patriotism? I just don't by it anymore. Maybe the GOP needs to loose to regain its sense of self. Maybe that's the price that has to be paid if we're to get true Reaganites again.
Yesterday, as I was watching the boycott America marches and rallies. I received a questionnaire from from Senator Frisk. He is interested in what I think is important for the country and the Republican party. He wanted money to help maintain and increase the Republican majority in the Senate.
It was a two page survey with most items having support, oppose, or undecided check boxes. I opposed all increases in federal taxes, spending or programs, except defense and security.
The first item was a list of 7 or 8 issues to be prioritized from most to least important. I had to add my own items 1. secure the border 2. Vigorously enforce existing emigration laws and 3. Massively reduce the deficit.
There were 3 narrow lines for comments just before the section where they asked me to record my generous gift and method of payment. My comment was I refuse to vote for a Democrat and the National Republicans do not deserve my support. They have frittered away all the goodwill and political capital they earned following the 94 election. Senator Frisk you keep my hundred dollar gasoline tax rebate and I will keep my generous donation until Senate Republicans grow a spine.
It won't do any good but it made me feel better.
Really, from whigs to republicans, and of course we all know the RAT party wasn't formed, they were written into the constitution. /S
great points. we're doomed.
