This Is The Lockup, We Have a Warrant for Your Arrest (Alarming as Heck)

How would you like to be a regular citizen working at your job at home who gets a telephone call by a seriously husky voiced male directly saying....."this is the lockup, we have a warrant out for your arrest, (my name)."..... Takes one aback just a little, don't you think?

Just needed to tell all FReepers ........... this is how the 'Muscular Dystrophy Association' chooses to call Americans in order to try to find donors here in my area.

After thinking for a moment or two I told the guy on the phone to go f**k himself after he belatedly identified his allegiance.

Muscular Dystrophy NEEDS to change these ways of trying to procure funds......... or they're going to have a very serious class action lawsuit on their hands very, very soon by some very competent lawyers!

Rush is doing a wonderful job today with his charity.......... but these Muscular Dystrophy people on the phones better get their heads right ...... and REAL SOON!

Have you ever had a call such as this?

No, I haven't.

Some good advice on these kinds of things is this: a genuine law enforcement organization, if they want to serve you a warrant, will do so in person not over the phone. Same goes for email.

I never have. But I might be very tempted to get as much information as possible, and then refer it to the local police as impersonating an officer.

Most likely it was one of your friends, gave them your name. Every year they do the same thing around here. It raises allot of money, and most the people here just play along. It's a good cause.

Yeah, it was a nightmare when I lived in a larger town. All you do is ask people for pledges.

Conventional wisdom where I worked was that "expendable" people were the only ones who got "locked up". If you were allowed to get locked up, you needed to look for a job.

The MDA needs a new telemarketing plan.

I also heard there is a another scam going around. Someone calls and says there is a warrant out for your arrest because you didn't report for jury duty. They say you can clear it up if you give them your SSN.

That is what it was for....... but, as the way it was presented on the phone by this guy...... I would have punched him in his face if I ever met him for making a phone call in the manner that he did saying what he said!

No. Why on earth would this strike anyone as a good fundraising idea?

The above is why they do it. This is their little foolish scam .

Unfortunately they have intimidating males calling people telling them that they are to be arrested............ nothing else. They need to be sued for harassment or worse............. I am surprised no older folks have died with this sick approach!!!

They try all sorts but like spam e-mail they must lower themselves to the level of the competition.

Our number is unlisted AND unpublished - big difference and the phone company doesn't want you to know about it lest they are unable to sell your info for thirty pieces of silver.

I give them a few choice words and hang up. If you are desperate enough to go into telemarketing, reconsider the alternatives. And no, I don't want to hear about opportunities/limitations for young people and seniors.

It is an 'industry' without merit, longevity or social utility. Organizations too lazy or cheap to raise funds without using the phone are not worth the time.

Well, obviously, anyone who wants to arrest you is not going to call on the phone to say so, so that's just silly. But I can't see why it would put anyone in a "giving" mood.

Yes I did. They were sitting right in the front. I always have rabbits in my yard. Sometimes deer, foxes, hawks, racoons, owls, beavers and now the occasional idiot.

if you give them your SSN - I once was visiting a company I had never been to before to pitch our product; told them I needed a schedule of employees - HR gave me a printout with about 500 names, date of birth, and FULL SS# - I could not believe it.

LOL ..... you sound a little too familiar with the procedure, girl. I have never been arrested, seen anyone get arrested or whatever.

It's just b*llsh*t that the Muscular Dystrophy Assoc. pulls that crap on the phone!

They really need a lawsuit. That surely is harassment.

I am almost 60........ I can just imagine what it would be like if I were somewhat older getting a phone call like that!

It sucks!
