Family Guy visits Farm (Seth MacFarlane talks about his show, the FCC, and South Park)
The Stanford Daily ^ | April 19, 2006 | Patrick Fitzgerald

Posted on 04/23/2006 11:51:50 AM PDT by EveningStar

Dressed in a slick leather jacket and armed with a back-pocket bottle of Jack Daniels, executive producer and creator of the hit cartoon “Family Guy,” Seth MacFarlane brought the house down last night during his talk at Memorial Auditorium.

Speaking in front of a packed crowd of students and community members — one of whom pointed out that MacFarlane’s sister used to baby sit her years ago in Connecticut — MacFarlane touched on his show’s recent rivalry with Comedy Central’s "South Park," as well as his ongoing battle with government and network censors...

1. Great find Evenginstar
2. Good to know Patrick Fitzgerald has a backup profession lined up in case that whole Libby prosecution thing doesn't work out.

“You want me to insult you?” MacFarlane quipped. “OK, you supported the war in Iraq,” he said to raucous applause.

But no laughter. His forays into politics have been noticably unfunny.

MacFarlane offered insight into the show’s constant tug-of-war with censorship.

Ah, yes, the FCC persecution complex. Interestingly enough, Seth, South Park has no problems whatsoever with the FCC. he told the audience that much of the scrutiny placed on network shows focuses on the amount of inappropriate language, as well as “[excrement] jokes.”

Yeah, well, Seth, if you want to make money out of the public airwaves, you have to play the public game. Don't like it? Go to cable. Or HBO.

his show can be funny but he's a big lib of course and likes to put down W on the show. Haven't watched in awhile.

I think Quagmire was inspired by horny Bubba Clinton (one ep. even had Quagmire as the President, and he bore a bit of a resemblance to
Clinton...)

Check this out. Threats of annihilation issued by UBL, over Cartoon Wars! Truth is stranger than South Park.

Stewie was funny when he was an evil baby genius, trying to take over the world. But then, McFarlane was apparently threatened with a lawsuit for plagarizing Barry Ween, boy genius, and they dropped that aspect, turning him into nothing but a bitchy, gay, baby.

He's a good voice actor, as well. He does all the male voices on the show minus Cleveland and Chris.

ach episode takes around nine months to create with a crew of 75 people working in-studio

So much for cutting edge on issues eh? I've watched it a few times. It's funny for what it is but it's no South Park

I've never seen the show. However, I did go to the site and I watched some clips while I was there.

I read that too. That can't be right. Must be a typo.

I don't know. From the episodes I've seen, the jokes don't talk a lot about current events. They're political yes but I've never heard them joke about something that's happened in the past few weeks from an episode
