You'd think I'd have learned my lesson and quit putting it off.

You'd think that.

Do you like country music or just Johnny Cash?

"Ring of Fire" is my favorite Johnny Cash song.

Only very recently in Britain has stereos in cars switched to CDs up until about 3 or 4 years ago the standard was cassette.

Don't sweat it, man...

No matter what happens, I believe I can speak for many when I say that everyone enjoys the cartoons every week.

As a matter of fact (and with your permission), I would like to use them in my semester comedy project for my politics class.

Anywho, I'm just as guilty of procrastination--just like most any college student ;)

You want me to complain again about having strep throat? I really don't mind...I can whine about it all night :P

How are you?

B&O was always some of the most expensive equipment on the market. I guess nothing has really changed.

Warfdale makes excellent speakers.

But I really like my Bose 901's. Completely non-directional in sound, but there are certain requirements for setting them up. They have to be so many inches from a wall behind them and they need so much room on the sides. They are not very good in a small room.

I LOVE country music. It's pretty much all I listen to. But Johnny is my favorite.

When I was at school a friend of mine dad had a 8 track in his car which was thought to be cutting edge as all we had were record players cassettes had not really hit the market yet.

Within a 5 or 6 years though the Walkman came out and once it was at a price that one could afford the record player except for the professionals was doomed.

Yeah, it took us a while to switch the cars to CD players. I guess they wanted to make sure we were really going completely with CDs.

Yeah, sure, go right on ahead. Just be sure you let them know about the real author, LOL. Mention how astute, learned, good-looking, dashing, charming, slick, dangerous, and all-around-good guy he is.

I think the sound quality on CD's far surpasses that on the old vinyl records. This is far less hiss, the records don't degrade as you play them and you never get a warped disk that makes the needle on your turntable jump up and down. It used to seem that every vinyl record I bought was warped.

Plus you can make a copy of the CD that is as good as the original. You couldn't do that with a cassette tape and a vinyl record.

The American debut of CD's was 1983. I have several old cd players from 1983-1985, when they were still relatively expensive. CD's were released overseas in late 1982, I think, before we got them here. They were a spinoff of Laserdisc technology, and faired a LOT better than did laserdisc(I would venture to say that probably fewer than 20% of FReepers have owned, or used a laserdisc player, as they NEVER really caught on, just like DAT.) It was not till 1985, I think that CD's began to get popular, and became a mainstream item after that.

I recall getting a CD player in 1985 for Christmas, and discs cost about $18 then. That was a LOT for a kid making less than $100 a week at the time!!

Interesting...

Now it seems (at least over here) that Walkmans are out and iPods, RAZRs and SLVR's are in...

I have none of those--I just got my own computer and cell phone a few months ago...;)

Awww poor baby. My strep isn't really that bad. Other than not being able to breathe, I feel fine. (Which is exactly what I told my boss when I went into the cafeteria to work today. She told me to go home.)

When are your exams?

I have a friend who has speakers that are the size and height of a chair but I must admit even I can tell the difference in quality.

He has a 30 year old amp with a built in pre amp capable of running 8 speakers (2 x quad).

He runs it as 2 x stereo though with 2 speakers in living room and 2 in the kitchen.
