Probably not many composers were all that good at handling money. Well, other than maybe Charles Ives, the father of estate planning. Financial acumen and artistic talent don't seem to go hand in hand terribly often.

For centuries, historians have portrayed Mozart as poor...

I had heard (for the last 60 years anyway) that he had good cash flow but not much savings.
