The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Our Saddle Club feature photo this time is two... of FrogInABlender posing under her huge cliffs, and their horses waiting tied by some other great rock formations.

Ping to new Saddle Club Thread!

The updated pictures to the who's who page posted early in the last thread, I apologize are not done yet... Have to remind my honey and sweet-talk him a little this weekend.

Continuing prayers and good thoughts for Tuffydoodle... who is struggling to give her tuffy another try at the clinic today. He's been struggling with pain and lameness for a long time now, and we hope the best for him in the days to come.

Well, I'm glad for the horse's sake that they're likely to find good homes... I am not all that sympathetic to the owner who seems to be having no trouble finding his own meals while keeping 27 horses he can't afford to feed. Seems he should have sold horses before they were in dire straits.... There's a story in there somewhere on why he has that many to begin with, he doesn't look like a rider.

We've got a few posters from the TX area, I know there's been a drought, but I wonder if hay is really that hard to find.

Wow, that's a shame! But he should be feeding them something else besides hay. They looked poorly taken care of in general. I hate to see horses kept in conditions like that. Hopefully the ones that are adopted out will be bound for a better life and the ones that are left will be better taken care of and this guy will stop raising more horses than he can afford to feed. Thanks for the post!

Although I'm not a horse owner, I have been around horses and have enjoyed riding. This is such a sad story....to see those poor horses starving and eating bark off the trees! I too hope they are adopted to people who will be able to take care of them!

LOL! I was thinking the same thing! Them poor scrawney little horses would fold right up if he got on any of them. I'll bet he's the equine equivalent of a puppymill.

Thanks for the thoughts, prayers and support, everyone. I really appreciate it.

Tuffy has been delivered to the vet clinic and he's moving much better. I don't know what-all helped, the massive doses of painkillers I gave him, the vet taking off the shoes, soaking his feet in ice, probably a combination of all of it. They are going to keep him for awhile and just work to see what the heck is making him so sore.

Looked like they weren't having a great day, the parking lot was crowding with trailers, one big horse was refusing to load and the dead animal hauler was pulling around to the back when I got there.

Hay is really not all that hard to find, you've just got to be willing to pay feed store prices. I bought 10 square bales of coastal today at $10 a bale. Last spring when we were still getting rain I bought 240 bales from a private seller at $4.50 a bale.

Tuffy has been delivered to the vet clinic and he's moving much better...

I sure am glad to hear it! Thanks for letting us know. I was really worried about him (and you too) yesterday.

...one big horse was refusing to load and the dead animal hauler was pulling around to the back when I got there.

I wonder if the first thing has anything to do with the second? ;o)
I know I sure have felt like killing one when he wouldn't get in the trailer!
