For those who aren't aware, one member of the cabinet is kept away from the state of the union so that he/she can take over the government in the event there is a catastrophic attack during the state of the union. This person is the designated survivor who will be the president of the United States.
In addition one member of the house and senate from each party have to stay away to survive as the legislative branch. So, what are your thoughts on who will be the designated survivor tomorrow. According to wikipedia, in the past they were :
2001 Presidential Address Before Joint Session of Congress: Anthony Principi, Secretary of Veterans Affairs
2002 State of the Union: Gale Norton, Secretary of the Interior
2003 State of the Union: John Ashcroft, Attorney General
2004 State of the Union: Donald Evans, Secretary of Commerce
2005 Presidential Inauguration: Gale Norton, Secretary of the Interior
2005 State of the Union: Donald Evans*, Secretary of Commerce
John Doolittle (R-CA), House Republican Conference Secretary
George Miller (D-CA), Ranking Democrat, House Education and the Workforce Committee
Ted Stevens (R-AK), President Pro Tempore of the Senate
Kent Conrad (D-ND), Ranking Democrat, Senate Budget Committee
Isn't she on the road? Could well be her.
Hmmmm...I wonder how drunk "the Swimmer" will be. He was so unhinged today that I hope the Secret Service checks him for a suicide vest.
Hopefully, Teddy won't show up. Then we'll be spared the cameras focusing on him.
Yeah, those shots with wide-angle lenses give me a headache.
