I just got done watching the Oprah interview where she tore author James Frey apart for lying in his "memoir," "A Million Little Pieces." Others joined in such as Richard Cohen and Frank Rich who DEMANDED honesty in memoir books that are supposedly non-fiction. Not too much of a problem for these folks to make such a demand on Frey since his lying "memoir" is non-political but would they make such demands on lying "memoirs" by liberals?
"I, Rigoberta Menchu" leaps to mind since it is supposed to be the TRUE memoir of a Central American Indian who was oppressed by the EVIL rightwingers such as the torture and immolation of her brother. Problem was that "torture" and MOST of the rest of her book were complete LIES. And yet her fake book won the 1992 Nobel Peace award and is STILL cited by many liberals in this country as being a TRUE account.
So will the folks on the Oprah show today, hold these other books, including the one by Menchu to the SAME standards as they raked James Frey over the coals for?
>>"I, Rigoberta Menchu"
Gesundheit.
I agree with your point but I also find the whole James Frey thing entertaining because it exposes yet again what dumb, credulous saps our "opinion leaders" are.

When will Bill Clinton's MY LIFE be scrutinized?
John McWhorter does a good job exposing Maya Angelou's BS autobiographies in this article: http://www.tnr.com/doc.mhtml?i=20020520&s=mcwhorter052002
Oh, I agree that it was a RIVETING interview but WHEN will the liberals apply the SAME standards of truth to fake leftwing memoirs? "I, Rigoberta Menchu" is only ONE of many such fake liberal memoirs and non-fiction books. Remember that college professor who wrote how there was very little gun ownership in Colonial America?
"I, Mary Mapes."
Whatever their personal flaws, Bill Bennett and Rush Limbaugh are not noted for being suckers, unlike every liar- and criminal-coddling liberal from Norman Mailer and Leonard Bernstein to the Clintons, Oprah et al.
"I, Jayson Blair."
I wonder if the MSM would have been more active if it were Rush Limbaugh that was similarly promoting such crap...and there really is no excuse for her Larry King performance.
Has Larry King commented on this?
Let's not forget Ho Chi Minh Kerry's Autobiography.
"I, Mama T Toy Boy."
