With all the Hollywood Hoopla glorifying a Western Movie about *Gay Cowboys* I thought a thread identifying a True American Western Movie is in order, so freepers what is you're all time Favorite Western Movie?
Mine too and I think that movie is a laugh and a half. They dont make western musicals like that and Oklahoma anymore.
Clang! Clang! "The Sheriff is a Nih.." Clang! Clang!
He was good in that and of course Dances with Wolves too!
Hope Hollywood does not come up with some birdbrain idea of making a movie about GAY INDIANS!
I haven't seen many westerns, but my favorite so far has been For a Few Dollars More.
The film uses simple editing techniques (each scene is a single shot) and the story is mostly linear (with only a few "meanwhile" moments) but it represents a significant step in movie making, being one of the first "narrative" movies.
A western filmed in New Jersey.
The final shot of a gun being fired toward the camera had a profound effect on audiences. As cinema was in its infancy, many people who saw the film thought that they were actually about to be shot.
The film was originally distributed with a note saying that the famous shot of the bandit firing his gun at the camera could be placed either at the beginning or at the end of the film. Most modern prints put it at the end.
The original camera negative still exists in excellent condition. The Library of Congress, who holds it, can still make new prints.
Produced by The Edison Manufacturing Company.
The more I think of it or see other posts, the more I realize what a part of my life westerns have been.
Lonesome Dove, Big Jake, Cowboys.... these films are the Hollywood that should be!
There's a reason for that...
What is it?
Can't pick just one, so....
Silverado
Magnificent Seven
The Man Who Shot Liberty Vallance
Stagecoach
Hondo
Red River
The Outlaw Josey Wales
Shane
Good start.
Dan
Tombstone
His movies suck.
Quigley Down Under
Once Upon a Time in the West
Know there's more than one, but "Never apologize, it's a sign of weakness"
"When you commdand this regiment, as no doubt one day you shall, then command it"
"The Wild Bunch".
Tied for Second Place: "Tombstone" and "El Dorado".
Jack.
Pale Rider Bump
If you mean movies that take place out West and has Indians and lots of rugged guys doin' a lot of fightin' ...then my favorite Western is "Jeremiah Johnson".
It's a little bit off the beaten path for the genre but I think it qualifies. It certainly is a great film.
Hey eeevil, you got a thing for cowboys, any favorite westerns?
