I sat there alone upon the ferris wheel
A pastel colored carriage in the air
I thought you'd leave me dangling for a little while
A silly twist upon a childish dareBelow I saw you whispering to another man
Who held the lever that could bring me down
He'd stop the world from turning at your command
It's always something cruel that laughter drownsAnd I'm up while the dawn is breaking
Even though my heart is aching
I should be drinking a toast
To absent friends
Instead of these comediansI can hardly hear the music from the carousel
The wind picks up, the carriage starts to sway
As one by one the lights go out
It's closing time
I see you take his hand and walk away, walk awayThey say that you will always be the last to know
They say that all that glitters is not gold
It's not just that you're never coming back to me
It's the bitter way that I was toldAnd I'm up while the dawn is breaking
Even though my heart is aching
I should be drinking a toast
To absent friends
Instead of these comedians
Another good one for Taylor would be 'Running Scared.' Ace should try 'Pretty Woman,' both because it would suit his voice and because he needs to sing something less 'gay.'
I love Roy Orbison...but I don't think I would want anyone singing his songs. I had a really hard time with Chris doing Johnny Cash last night. That was one of my criticisms of the movie, Joaquin could sing but I would rather of heard Johnny Cash's real voice. The lyrics in the song you posted were nice. I've never heard that one. i might have to go buy that c.d.
Funny, I was thinking Ace should have sung 'Venus' for the 50's night, for the same reason. :)
ROFL!
Orbison would be a great choice for Hicks--he needs a great choice.
But apparently next week's theme is "Songs of the 21 Century"--no song older than 6 years. I don't know how Hicks will adapt to that.
