founded this nation..... and this is clearly documented.

The slogan was added during the 1860s. An excerpt from Rev. Watkinson's letter to Salmon P. Chase:

What if our Republic were not shattered beyond reconstruction? Would not the antiquaries of succeeding centuries rightly reason from our past that we were a heathen nation?
