Not surprising, but saddening because it represents so many other marriages in our crumbling society. If anyone had the resources to make a marriage work, these two certainly did. Even if they both quit their careers today, they'd be richer than 90% or more of the people in the world.

Even worse, Jessica claims (claimed?) to be a Christian, and her father was a preacher. What part of "God hates divorce" have they forgotten? Why is the divorce rate for professing Christians the same as for nonbelievers? Why are our churches silent on this and so many other moral issues?

When she revealed she had to seek therapy to deal with the rumors printed in the tabloids, it was pretty much evident the marriage was doomed.

It probably doesn't help that he so quickly became Mr. Jessica Simpson.

Money can't buy me love.....nor will it save a marriage.

Divorce is unfortunate. However there are situations where it's mandatory.

I was raised Roman Catholic, and my parents were very devout. My mother knew that my ex was beating the living sh*t out of us, but wouldn't let us move home. She told me to pray harder. I finally got out of it, 19 years too late.

No one should put up with abuse or adultery, and that's just common sense. God also hates people who mock Him and break vows and commandments.

I agree, not surprising but a shame nonetheless. I think it's been a long time coming. Jessica comes across on the Newlywed show as childish and immature, playing a role for the tv as 'wife', in contrast to role as wife for the long term. I hope it wasn't like that. Nick always struck me as wanting to be married, not on display like a mannequin. It's too bad that one or both of them haven't realized that 'God hates divorce'. You bring up good points. And in Jessica's case, part of the problem seems to be the marketing of her by her (supposedly) preacher father.

...and her father was a preacher.

I guess pimping out his daughers was a wee bit more lucrative.

"Why are our churches silent on this and so many other moral issues?"

Because they are afraid if they criticised divorce they would lose members and the money they contribute to their churches.

Money is the god they worship and they will do anything to serve their god.
