Apple is planning to release its first entry-level iBook laptops with Intel processors next January at Macworld Expo in San Francisco, highly reliable sources have confirmed to Think Secret. It is not known exactly what processors or price points the new models will debut at, but it is thought Apple will expand the iBook line with one additional model and will lower pricesin some cases possibly $200 or moreto entice current Windows users and prove to the market it will be more competitive with the likes of Dell, Gateway, HP and Sony.

Here it comes................. The war.

I like the competition from Apple and Linux. I will never buy an Apple computer but will install OS X on a Wintel box sometime in the future when others smarter than I have ironed out the kinks and done the hacks

Why don't you just buy a mac if you support their products?

Only their OS X is worth a fling. The rest is commentary as in the rest is easily assembled from off the shelf PC components. Apple chose to go the Wintel route

Why bother jumping through hoop after hoop?
That was one of the reasons I jumped to linux, hoopjumping gets old after a while.
At least to me.

They should have went with AMD. Far superior processors. They even beat out Intel in desktop sales last year.

Limited production capacity, no serious laptop solution - if Jobs considered AMD, it wasn't for very long.
To: Swordmaker
Yea I saw the ping to you so I did not attach you to that, I knew you would get to it..

So the real question here is if you (and likely many others) will just pirate OS X off of BitTorrent or will you buy it?

Apple views itself as a HARDWARE company first, so I doubt you'll be able to (easily, without a hacked version) install OSX on a non-apple machine...
Besides, the new machines will be comparably priced, why not enjoy the full experience?
A great UI AND beautiful industrial design...

I half understand how to install OS X on a non-apple machine... I'm not in a hurry. Perhaps in 6 months I'll get a Sempron or Celeron that's compatible with hacked OS X. I don't have such a setup as of now
If it will run on one of the new T6100 Nvidia nforce motherboards then I'm definitely going to do it
