We just got a dish installed and get HBO, Showtime, Cinamax free for 3 months. So we're surfing and come across this movie called "The Singing Detective" with Robert Downey Jr. and Mel Gibson.
Thinking anything with Mel Gibson can't be all that bad, we stopped to watch. BAD IDEA!
Robert Downey Jr. plays a wannabe writer of Detective Novels with one book under his belt. Yep you guessed it "The Singing Detective".
Now as if this wasn't bad enough, his character is also in a hospital with a very bad skin condition (Think Leprosy times 10) all over his body. Whenever he wants to take our minds off his bad makeup job, he reverts to his book character and busts into a song from the 50's and 60's.
Very confusing! And to make matters worse, Mel Gibson plays a boring shrink with a bald head and a really bad comb over!
I think the wife and I lasted all of 30 minutes before we changed the channel to a "House Hunters" re-run on HGTV.

The Singing Detective brought back an old western. I can't remember the name, even though I have it on video. It's one of the early John Wayne "B" westerns, where he plays a character named "Singing Sandy". As he's walking down the street to shoot the bad guy, he's singing about doing it. And it wasn't the Duke singing! And the lip syncing was terrible!!!
