Man faces trial on charges he shot wife over dirty dishes Thursday, August 11, 2005
The Associated Press
WAYNESBURG -- A man charged with shooting his 17-year-old wife after an argument over dirty dishes was ordered to stand trial on criminal homicide and other charges.
At a preliminary hearing yesterday, state police said James Russell Petrie, 27, of Richhill Township, told them he was watching "Dr. Phil" on television when his wife came downstairs July 7 and also started watching the show.
Petrie said he asked his wife, Jessica, why there were still dirty dishes in the sink. She told him she would "get to them," angering her husband who felt he was being ignored, police said.
That's when Petrie took a .22-caliber gun and shot his wife in the head, police said.
Petrie at first told investigators he checked to make sure the gun wasn't loaded, but later acknowledged that he hadn't checked the gun before pulling the trigger, police said.
Jessica Petrie died about 10 hours later at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va.

Well, that solved the problem didn't it. Wanna bet the dishes are still there?

A 27-year-old male marrying a 17-year-old girl is mentally unstable to begin with.

If there is justice in the world, he will get to wash dishes in prison for 40 years and become the "wife" of another inmate.

I blame Dr. Phil!
And I thought watching "Dr. Phil" together was supposed to be good for your marriage...

Granted this guy was an idiot but lots of marriages have 10 years between the partners without it showing any mental instability on either ones part. What crap!

Tragic end to a troubled life
Seventeen-year-old Jessica Morris Petrie, who died Thursday of a bullet wound to the head allegedly inflicted by her husband, lived a hard life, said several people who knew her.
Petrie survived cancer of the kidney, then cancer of the lungs, Betty Ealy of Waynesburg said Friday. Ealy owns the property on Chapman Road in Richhill Township where Petrie and her husband, James, 27, lived.

Well that was stupid! Now he can't have kids that could do the dishes, mow the lawn and clean out the garage! Doh!

I DID expect to see "Cletus" or at least a middle name of "Bob" somewhere in the article.
