Not so good if it will only run on certain distros.

Ok, they don't want to distribute source code. Silly, for a security product, but it's their choice.

Well, how about they ship a binary that will run on LSB? That's what it's for.

Then they don't have to create a half dozen different packages for a few distros. One package would run on any distro that complies with the LSB.
