Posted on 06/23/2005 11:29:58 AM PDT by laceybrookesdad
Hello Freepers. Your help is needed! Please give me directions (like I was a 5 yr old) on how to place pictures on my FR profile/homepage. I am not very computer savvy......I do know where the enter key is!!...LOL... I am sure there are different ways to do this. Any and all would be greatly appreciated. THANK-YOU!

First you need an online place to place the pictuyres. Either a free web based server, or a for pay server where the pics can reside online. Then you need to know the html (that's a language the web pages are written in) to put on your home page pointing at/referencing the online address where the respective picture is located,.

The "find a place on the web" is the hardest part for people to understand. Their usual response is, "I've got it in my hand!" or "I know exactly where it is on my computer"
Sorry, that does not work!
(For the life of me I have never understood why, exactly; we sent a messenger to Phobos!)

Might this not be something for Jim R to consider? Find out how much is the cost of hosting images and charge Freepers cost +50%. it might actually pay for itself!

First, you need a place to store your picture on the internet.
Then post a picture in this format <img src="www.hostwebsite.com/laceybrookesdad.jpg">

If you already have the photo on your computer, go to www.tinypic.com and hit the browse button. Choose your file, double click, and hit host.
After the photo has been hosted, copy the tag line.
Now, you can either save that tag line on your notepad or on a word document (which is what I do so I can access them again when I need to, after naming them), or simply put the tag line onto your edit page on your profile.
If you have a photo that is not on your computer, you will have to scan it in first.

Here's an a question from me.
I'm a pretty computer savvy person, but I can't find a cure for a problem.
My computer won't open up google or a couple of other sites.
It shows a failed page, not a redirection of anything.
I did a malware, virus, adware search which was clean.
I did a text search through every file in my computer for www.google.com trying to find some .dll file that was blocking the site, but no luck.
I have windows 2000, had explorer 5.5 which just upgraded to 6.0 with no improvement.
Any ideas that retains this operating system without a re-install?
At this point the old F-disk seems to be a close to only option.

See if you can get to Google w/this:
http://64.233.161.104/ If not, then from the IE menu bar, try clicking 'Tools', then the 'Privacy' tab, then the 'Edit...' button at the bottom of the box.
Chances are that the 'blocked' pages are in the scrollable list at the bottom.
If so, right click on the desired site name then click 'allow'.
If that doesn't fix it, use a similar approach w/any other security app you may have installed that sniffs for cookies.

I keep getting "The page cannot be displayed" after that and everything else I tried.
I got rid of all cookies, nothing is disabled and have run various programs.
Your link also didn't come up.

Ok, try 'Tools / Internet Options / Security / click on the red 'Restricted Sites' thingy / then on 'Sites...' and see if there's anything listed in the box that comes up.

Didn't work, but it was a great idea.
I don't get this, I can't find www.google.com in any search of the text in files on my computer. I'm clean virus and malware adware wise, but this is tough.
You would think some websites are blocked based on some file connected to the registry, but I can't find it if it exists.
