Please forgive the vanity, however I have a couple of questions about the Terri Shiavo situation.
FWIW I am praying for Terri and hoping for a miracle. As the hours pass it doesn't look good. In the meantime I've been going over documents, paying attention to reports and a couple of things have struck me as rather odd.
The first is really bothering me. Here's an excerpt from the Media Matters website - "CNN, Fox featured ex-Schiavo nurse whose affidavit was dismissed as "incredible" by judge"

according to Greer's September 2003 order, Schiavo's parents had not subpoenaed Iyer to testify.
Apparently this is correct. Why weren't the caregivers whose affidavits seem to be so important NOT SUBPOENED BY TERRI'S PARENTS?! How could they NOT? Maybe it's obvious and I'm clouded by my passion for the case, but I would really like a rational explanation for this.
The second, and probably least relevant is an interview that was supposed to take place on the Glenn Beck program with Dr Hammesfahr. From the onset he sounded a little chakey at best. Only a short way into the interview he and glenn came to an impass. Glenn asked him to discuss what was in his report and he refused. He refused to give highlights. Instead he wanted to give a location - possibly a website, maybe terrisfight.org, he didn't say - where people could read the entire report.
Glenn got ticked, sensed that the doc was promoting himself or something. He offered the doc a couple of outs like he was afraid of lawsuits and the doc took them. Just repeated what Glenn said.
Glenn abrutly ended the interview and apologized to the audience. Said that he and his producers sensed something funny about the doc and when he wouldn;'t co-operate they decided he wasn't sincere or credible. I have to agree, he sounded bad.
Can someone please explain this to me? Since the report IS posted on the web several places, why would he refuse to discuss it on a talk show?

Dr. Hammesfahr was excellent on Hannity yesterday - or whatever day it was. He also spent a long day in FL talking to the holdout senators etc., I heard that somewhere. I think he is going out of his way to help Terri, maybe just tired of repeating himself, AND just plain tired, and referring people to the site for the details. He was credible to me, and the claim by the social services appeal's doc backs it up and vice versa.
Even with that I think he could have given a detail or two, but that's just my take.

Still, have the Schindlers asked for her help with Terri >since< Dec, 2003?
I'm ignorant and while I've been trying to go through the documents there are so MANY I'm just skimming a lot and hoping someone with more knowledge mught have the answers.

Virtually all of the testimony that the family wanted to present was ruled inadmissible by the judge. To my knowledge the judge didn't even get a second medical opinion.
Hi there, pris -- I don't have anything to add to the two specific points you request more info on, but it sure is good to see you here. There is a disconnect in the media on this, that's why you don't see a lot of the info until you start digging on the internet. Sorta like Waco.

I have wondered about that also. Hope you get an answer. I thought maybe there was something that made her parents lawyer doubt the nurse's story.
If you mean have they tried to submit affadavits, yes but they don't get far. Greer ignores them. Did you hear 3 nurses walked out of Woodside Hospice yesterday and are now supporting the Schindlers?
Also, there was a bone scan done in 91 on Terri that showed multiple broken bones in various stages of healing. Schiavo filed to keep Dr Walkers testimony out of court and Greer granted it. This happens often. I'll post that link and the website it's from but don't know if it's working as the machine I'm on doesn't read PDFs.

The judge stated it was incredible as it amounted to a 15 month coverup that would have included the staff, guardian, doctors, police and the Schindlers themselves...as Carla states she would call and tell them all the time what was going on....yet they made no complaints to staff or police.

Yuppers I know about the media disconnect thing. I had been following the case but not as closely as I should have apparently.
In any case the embarrasing moment came Tuesday morning when a news anchor asked me about the Iyers report. I had read part of it, had heard her and Heidi Laugh (sp?) a couple of times thought them credible. Didn't check dates. But to get the info for the newscast I Googled Iyers in the news, went to Media Matters, printed out the report and passed it along.
Anchor came back to me and pointed out the problem of Terri's parents NOT subpeoning her and I didn't have an answer. Spent A LOT of time all day yesterday trying to come up with one, finally gave up and thought I'd ask here.
Yesterday morning the Doc's interview on the Beck show also got my antennae wiggling.
And then there's something else that has bothered me all along. Cyn, you know my position on this sort of thing but someone else reading this might misunderstand. Thing is There are so many strange aspects, not the least of which is the realtionship between Terri and Michael.
If Michael is such a demon...abusive, digusting husband...why did Terri link up with him in the first place? Was Terri an unsuspecting angel?
I can't help but wonder if something else wasn't involved. NO disrespect to Terri or her family intended, but early on could there have been substance abuse...an unusual man/woman relationship...were they a young couple living on the edge...did Terri have low esteem or was she just fooled by Michael. I have a hard time believing that last one.

This whole case seems to me like the judicial system was in the pocket of Michael, or he had strings to pull. Just wonder who he really is, anyway.

Try reading the document. She went to the police and was fired the next day.
3 nurses at Woodside just walked out. Why do you suppose they'd support the Schindlers? Because Woodside and what's happening is so wonderful?
Sorry, i'm pro-Terri, but there's something about this Hammesfahr character that leaves me suspicious. The bragging about being a "Nobel prize nominee," without any explanation of what that means. Did his wife send in a nomination - or is there some special board, with special criteria, that has the exclusive authority to do so (in which case, it WOULD be an honor to be a nominee). But there's no explanatio.
Also, the schools listed on his bio page I haven't heard of. And on Hannity he didn't seem to be able to communicate very authoritatively, if you ask me.
I'm glad Jeb was able to come up with a more impressive neurologist to argue that Terri may not be PVS.
It includes some details of his Nobel nomination, education and areas of expertise.
Like you though, I didn't think he was able to communicate very well, espeically for someone with impressive credentials.

You're kidding me! What are you, 11 years old? This has only happened something like several hundred million times and you act like some naive young kid with virtually know life experience?
I believe it was his congresscritter. The Nobel folks require that the nominee's home government do the nomination.
