It's time for anyone considering retirement in Florida to SERIOUSLY re-think their plans.
There are many other states (and countries, for that matter) where they will be safer from murder under the color of authority when they get a little infirm and inconvienent.
If you are retired in Florida, and you are still able, you might consider getting out while you still can...
Let Florida know killing the inconvenient has economic consequences.
Forget about retirement. I just cancelled a trip to Florida for later this year, and I've decided that I'll take a vacation in Fallujah before I ever set foot in Florida again.
If you want a chat thread, don't post it in News, OK. There are too many of these vanities today, IMO. Why not post your opinion in one of the existing threads?
Living in Florida could be hazardous to your health.
I was under the impression that the FL legislature passed a law to help Terri, but that the courts are the problem. Am I wrong? If this is what happened, the solution is not in boycotting FL but in serious demands on changing the courts. Are you going to the March for Justice?
Florida is hot, humid, overcrowded, and subject to sinkholes and hurricanes.
Think the Carolinas.......
Oh, this one is tough. I love Florida but have been really disturbed by some of the news (legislation and crime) coming out of there recently. It isn't just the retired or infirmed, it's the children at home in their beds or the children in the DCFS system. However, I think it does merit some discussion because all of us can learn from the news coming out of Florida....learn of getting healthcare proxies, learn of checking our local law enforcement lists for possible predators in our area. I think one of the hallmarks of being an American is not running, but fighting. I am not totally convinced that punishing the good people of Florida by diminishing the local economy is the fair thing to do. I understand the sentiment, trust me. I do. Sometimes being on the outside feels a bit helpless and hitting the economy seems to be the most obvious way to speak out. I am not saying you shouldn't do it, I am saying it doesn't sound good to me. At the same time, I have to give it to you because I personally cannot come up with a better idea that might have a bigger impact in Florida locally. Maybe that is up to the locals in the state to take on and those of us on the outside can support them in that respect. All of this news does lead to some stirring of 'let's get off our butts and do something!' I am not quite sure what that 'something' is just yet.
My friends who live in Florida for years have told me what's taking place in that state especially with the elderly; taking the elderly out is common.
With the exception of Gov. Bush, apparently only one
rabbi, and other Floridians of character and integrity,
the message from other Floridians is very
clear:
If you move to Florida, your state government,
George Greer, federal district judges, the
ACLU, with the apparent complicity of the Florida
Senate AND the ACLU, may well try to kill you at
their whim.
Good point. I'm sure the mods will move it to chat, if they are so inclined.
I wanted to give it better visibility than it would have buried in another thread.
What's the point of calling for a decades long boycott if no one knows about it?
For that mater what's the point in responding to the thread in the first place if you didn't like it?...
Just have a living will and you can retire or live anywhere you want - It is each individuals resposibility to to make sure everything is in writing and all interested parties read it and sign that they will abide by the will.
And by the way, where is
AARP in all of this?
Are they so uncaring about the
potential effect of Greer's ruling upon
their constituency?

Getting kind of crowded here, too. But don't forget that FL went for Bush this fall.
Bingo. We really aren't all that different from the Germans, are we? The human race is truly 'ein volk'...
I see it's in chat now.

The AARP is a lib-uh-rhul organization.
