I need some advice here

I could use some legal advice here folks. I am an officer in a organization in the UK (Scotland) and have been getting some threatening emails from a former member of the org. Although vague, a police officer friend of mine here tells me that there is enough in those to at least get a order issued against him/them.

My question to you is this. Who do I contact to make sure these people are spoken to and warned or an order issued and delivered.

The other officers of the group are aware and are taking some measure of action themselves. Problem is, not much money is there (within the treasury) for them to do so.

It's a little hard to get a sense of what's going on from the description, but in the US, the first step is usually some sort of warning letter on the letterhead of a lawyer. If you know a tame lawyer, excellent. If not, one is usually willing to draft a warning for a nominal fee.

While I can't comment on the former, I can advise you to preserve the emails so their header contents can be read and traced. At the least, forward copies to trusted parties.

Is this a joke? You're an "Officer"? ... Constable? ...Military Officer? ... Maybe "Scotland Yard" could help you in filing your complaint. I don't get this!

You're an "Officer

Officer as in Treasurer, Secretary, Vice Chairman, Chairman, etc.

Dam it! I am a US citizen! Sorry I forgot to..

I will be traveling there to tend to a meeting. These letters are saved (emails) time and date are on them as you know it does that for you.

I would like to know who I call to have these people talked to? Do I go through the embassy? Would like to kinda have this settled in advance. It isnt that serious as of yet but it could get that way as the person doing the threatening is a certified nut case and I am not kidding! He has spent time in the mental hospital. Its a long story..

Contact the FCC. Threats via email are a felony. They can track the sender even if they hide their return address.

Murder is your only option at this point.

At the least, forward copies to trusted parties.

Be sure to forward the emails as attachments, since just forwarding the message "in-line" will remove the original headers. In fact, even as attachments, many email programs will delete the headers.

There's NO SUBSTITUTE for keeping the messages on your computer, as well as archiving them. But even archiving the messages can bring charges of "faked" messages.

That is what we are trying to figure out. It started with a dissagreement over an issue that came to a vote at an meeting two years ago. Two got up and left in resignation (they were officers also) and since I was voted in a charman at that time they pinned the blame on me and it has been really nasty every since. One of them went on a violent rant that night at the hotel and beat the livin hell out of his wife.
BTW the membership voted thier proposal down.

This is so darn childish I am really ashamed of it.

I have them all printed out. The headers come out clear as well as the time.

I really thank you all for this.

LOL

You may be right. Those Scots can be a mean bunch if you ask me. I am from a family of them and they, when they get their back up, are like cornered mules. Well, maybe more like cornered tigers. No, mules it is. Or chimpanzees.

Things like name changes (spellings)

Should the name have a "Mc" in front or not. Since the origination of any Scot name comes from one name I.E. Gregore/Donald/Pherson, then the name Mac/McGregor means "son of" Gregor. Clan means "children of". Then came the arguement...

Oh the hell with it. I am sick and tired of all this. We used to have the most fun at gatherings untill these people managed to worm their way in. I wish the old Chairman would have kicked them out while he was alive.
