The Hobbit Hole XX - And take the hidden paths that run...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 03/05/2005 11:51:13 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And take the hidden paths that run...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Do yuh also order them there Tore-tillahs with some of them Jallah-pain-yohs on 'em?

Of course! ;) Austin is far enough north that "Guadalupe" is pronounced "Gua-da-loop", and "San Jacinto" is "San Ja-cint-a" ("J" as in "Jump").

We have some odd pronounciations here too... "Burnett" pronounced "Burn-it" (durnit!) and "Buda" pronounced "Byooda" (I still get that one wrong more often than not...)

Thanks, hon. I know it's just a stage, as they say. After all, I survived Rebecca's toddler years.

But Becky was NEVER this bad. Either that or my brain blocked out the memory of it being that bad. :)

I know it. It's just when you're actually going through it, it feels like forever. I just felt so frustrated with her and with myself for not being able to control or soothe her. *sigh*

I think my sister has a copy of that book, come to think of it. I'll double-check with her and, if not, I'll get it from the library on the corner here.

(((mrsnad)))

Thanks, sis. I know you understand.

Maybe next year.

Aww... dang. That's too bad. Hang in there. Only the good parents bother to wonder if they're doing it right. :-) Hang in there. It's just your mother's prayers exacting revenge on you from when you were a kid. Just like you're doing now... :-)

Jury duty: *YOU* would be a hoot on a jury.

Mmmm... pinewood derby cars.

I still have my old cars. They were killers. Had a technological edge...

My method involved filling a cavity with lead, then on raceday at the weigh-in I'd use a drill into the bottom to drill out lead until it was just ~barely~ inside the weight spec.

That, and polishing the axles (the nails) and the inside of the wheels, and poofin' em with a little graphite right before the start.

Sorry... went back in time there for a sec.

That would be funny if it wasn't so close to truth. My mom told me some stories this morning about my behavior as a toddler.

I was ~slightly~ milder than Alyson, but only slightly. I had a 30 minute full-blown tantrum in the parking lot of Disney World at Alyson's age because I had decided that I wanted to stay and live with Mickey.

I eventually grew up. I think. :-)

I didn't see the story on the 90 footer aground, was it a thread? Assume she was some form of schooner? Glad the crew survived and hope the ship will too.

but but... the accused is a victim...

dunno what'll happen, if anything... no sane lawyer would allow me on a jury...

I had decided that I wanted to stay and live with Mickey.

A perfectly reasonable request. How can parents be so mean? :-)

Oh, the humanity!

Alyson has fallen asleep, at long last. Rebecca is now being the disobedient one.

Beatings are in order....
