The Hobbit Hole XX - And take the hidden paths that run...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 03/05/2005 11:51:13 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And take the hidden paths that run...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

That would be anachronistic, Ma'am (and entirely probable)

Cheers!

We're all about anachronisms... Lord knows, I am. :-)

Okay, I can go with that. I used to live in suburbia. So I move to North Carolina and end up in a pine forest. I could call it Tauros, if I wanted to.

...I think that's the name of my house, now. Thank you, Ramius. :)

Now its down to bad, or really bad, and please don't ask me which is which because I'm not sure that I know.

What strikes me as really, really bad is that this is being celbrated. Right out of the nazi medical handbook, which itself drew its inspiration from the American eugenics movement of the 1920s.

Things will go more quietly after this. A precedent will be declared to be set, and challengers won't be given publicity the next time. Eventually, it will become like the Netherlands, where doctors have quotas of "undesireables" to off, and can invent their own rules. After that will come a government agency to "enforce uniform policies".

Most doctors will order the nursing shift on midnights to do the dirty work. Except for the real ghouls. I had the personal misfortune to pass close to "Doctor" (never had a valid license to practice pathology in Michigan) Jack Kervorkian. There were a cold, damp feeling of death around him, just like a barrow wight. Guys like that will get off on killing, at least sparing the nurses from doing it.

Your description of Kevorkian gave me chills. Spooky stuff, that.

Good morning!

Beleg - welcome! Always good to see new folks here!

Jen - lotsa boxes headed your way soon, if all goes well. They're all loaded into Van-sama, and I'm hoping to take off a tiny bit early today to mail them. Still feel bad for the mail person. I'm strange that way, I guess.

Bon voyage to ecurbh and Hair! Have a wonderful vacation, and check in when you can! Hair...I don't think I have your phone number. Could you FReepmail me that at some point? Same goes for any others whose phone numbers I may need during my journey...

Kewl! I'm still thinking we'll likely get there in time for an early lunch, but I guess it's hard to predict car travel with much accuracy!

Coming right up, Eatmoot is!

Good morning! I have a very busy day. We have to get two lessons done today so we can take tomorrow off with Dad. Also, Steve's Easter luncheon at work is today and we're going to that, so I won't be around much.

XGI, got your comments on the blog...thank you sir! Very informative.

See you all later!

Have a good day! Mmmm...Easter luncheon...

Ugh...I'm really having trouble being at work lately. I don't feel like starting things I won't finish, and there aren't a lot of quick little things to do, so...it's just frustrating.

Also they've hired my replacement - he's currently a work-study, but will start as a normal employee next week, so I'm kind of a...what's the right term? Lame duck?

He's already probably better at this job than I am, so it's not like I have to train him.

I'll keep an eye out for the boxes! And let you know when they get here.

Try not to feel too lame-ducky at work. After all, you gave them notice, they could have said "don't come in any more". So they think there's work for you.

Just hard to be enthused about a job I'm leaving so soon.

OK, off to stuggle with a software conflict again. ZoomText (a screen magnifier/reader) and Dragon NaturallySpeaking won't play nice together, and may NEVER play nice, but I'm stubborn enough to try. This is a system we have setup for disabled students, only it's never completely worked right due to there being a lot of similar programs on it, none of which like to share resources.

Well...the next step they gave me to try didn't work. I'm beginning to think it can't be done.

Thank you for your kind welcome, Rosie (you were lovely in the movie, btw, I can fully understand Sean's wife's jealousy [grin])

So you're leaving your job? I'm looking for one. They don't seem to be too thick on the ground around here, but stiff-upper-lip and I keep on keepin' on.

It would be much appreciated if, those of you who pray, could add me to your list of devotions about that.

In Christ,

The Hobbit Hole prayer warriors do an awesome job! We can certainly pray for you.

I'm looking for a job, too, due to relocating...so I could use prayers as well. I'm leaving Vermont in 11 days, as my tagline indicates. Exciting...but scary!

Thank you, sister!!

And Colorado was #2 on our short-list of locations to relocate to. NC won because that's where our eldest was giving birth to our first grandchild (Moira).

And you're on my prayer list too, Rosie. Especially for safe and happy travel.

In Christ.
