Need Help Downloading Macromedia Flash (Shameless, Desperate Vanity)

Posted on 01/11/2005 6:50:12 AM PST by LibSnubber

FRiends, I am desperate. Me, middle-aged stay-at-home mom, has gone back to college after 25 years. I need to download Macromedia Flash in order to view what appears to be a majority of my work online. I've tried everything and nothing is working. I've got Windows XP.

Can anyone help me? I'm risking this vanity because if this doesn't work, I think I will drop out because if I can't understand this computer crap - how will I ever become a nurse? Flame me if you've got nothing better to do - but honestly, no one can upset me more than I already am.

Thank you and for all those inclined, please pray for me.

I totally agree.

It a short run if you think about it... dedicate your life to it and it will be over in a few short years then you can enjoy a nice career...

Nurses are in high demand and there will always be plenty of work. The pay is good

"PC are here to stay... This a PC world and it will be a PC world."

I'ver been looking for those words. LOL

It's about reality and accepting it.....kind of like the election!

It's like the VHS versus Betamax technology war - VHS became the technology of choice not because it was better - it's not - but because most of the available pornography was on VHS !

Same with Windows PCs - most games are available only for Windows.

I invite anyone to join my arrogant state! :)

That's what they said about many technologies which are now only memories in the Smithsonian. "The only thing that's certain is change."

FRiends,

Thank you so much for your help, advice, and support... I haven't resolved the problem, but after almost 7 hours I gave up and arranged for a computer troubleshooter to come out tomorrow afternoon. Over the phone, he's stumped too.

Can't tell you how much I appreciate all of you. Y'all are the best. If I can make it through this first week of school - I might be able to become a nurse after all. :)

Bake cookies. The fourteen year old kid next door likes them.

If worst comes to worst, you can always reformat your hard drive (wipe everything off of it and reinstall Windows and all of your software) and start over.

Hey Guys! My computer troubleshooter just left. It took him 2 hours to find a way to download Macromedia Flash (in a warped way, I felt better because he didn't come in and click two times to fix it)... The problem was the Service Pack 2 for my Windows XP. It was a last resort to remove it - but as soon as he did - we were able to download Flash instantly. I wouldn't have guessed that in a million years. And I'm not going to reinstall SP2 either - MS can keep it.

Just wanted to share this with you and to once again, thank all of you for coming to my rescue! I hope to return the favor one day (as long as it doesn't have to do with computers though lol)!

Now I'm off to do lots of homework - have a good night, my FRiends!

I wish I had dollar for every time I'd heard that.

Thanks for the status update. And congratulations! Computer stuff can be so tediously irritating that sometimes you just want it to go away.

Well, as long as you guys are here, I went for the Windows update notification that popped up, and now I can't browse through my documents to attach one to an email. I don't know if I have the Service Pac thing, but where can I check on that, if you happen to know. ;(

I don't know what is causing your problem, but I do know that update notification is one of the first things I turned off on my XPpro install....along with indexing and autorestore and all that phonehome crap and so forth. Behind a hardware firewall, I don't update XP at all. Updates often cause more trouble than they are worth.

If and when you figure this out, will you ping me? My 7th-grader's Prentiss Hall math book is on a CD. It told us we need to install Macromedia Flash, which we have. But we reinstalled it--several times. The silly CD checks to see if we have it, verifies that we do, and then it won't run. It tells us we need to install Macromedia Flash. Talk about an endless loop.
