Is it ok to feed my cats raw bacon?

Posted on 12/24/2004 11:51:13 AM PST by little bus

One day, my cats were hungry and I didn't have anything in the house to feed them except raw bacon. They loved it! I continued to give them raw bacon each day and now it's their favorite food (they won't eat raw sausage, though). In fact, now they don't want anything else. I've tried different foods on them - vienna sausage, potted meat, canned mackerel, etc., but they want their bacon. Someone told me this might not be good for the cats, but they seem healthy. What do you think? I see cats on this sight sometimes when I surf, so maybe you know something here.

Please, whatever you do, don't let them get a taste of raw, human flesh ...

Save the cat food for Grandma and feed your cats bacon. She is going to need it after Bush gets done with her.

Why not, cats are natural hunters and kill and eat raw animals. My barnyard cat will not eat anything that is cooked, so she gets only raw pieces of meat. The other cat, he's just a bum...

I can't imagine that a steady diet of raw bacon would be good for them. Check out some of the websites -- you could learn more there, or call your vet and see what he says.

Al, the amazing wonder viking kitty, just lifted her head and growled audibly. I wouldn't give her any raw meat just now.

How could it hurt? I mean, I feed my dog raw cats and he's fine.

You are worried about an animal eating raw bacon when they are able to eat raw rats and raw birds, feathers and all? Give me a break, have you no common sense at all? (are are you just bored)

Bacon? Why bacon when kitty can have Green Eggs and Ham!

Green Eggs and Ham à la Sam-I-Am

Ingredients

1-2 tablespoons of butter or margarine
4 slices of ham
8 eggs
2 tablespoons of milk
1-2 drops of green food coloring
1/4 teaspoon of salt
1/4 teaspoon of pepper

What You'll Need

knife, medium-size mixing bowl, wire whisk or eggbeater, large frying pan, spatula, aluminum foil, serving plates

1. With an adult's help, melt a teaspoon of butter in a large frying pan over medium heat. Add sliced ham and brown until edges are slightly crisp. Remove the ham from the pan, cover with aluminum foil, and set aside.

2. In a medium-size mixing bowl, combine the eggs, milk, salt, and pepper. Beat with a whisk until frothy. Then add 1-2 drops of green food coloring until you reach the desired shade of green.

3. With an adult's help, heat a tablespoon of butter or margarine in a large frying pan over medium heat until the butter begins to sizzle. Then add the egg mixture to the pan.

4. Stir the egg mixture with a spatula until the eggs are firm and not too runny.

5. Transfer the eggs to individual plates. Garnish with a sprig of parsley. Add the ham prepared earlier. Serve with toast or warm rolls.

Feeds 4 hungry green-egg lovers. YUM
