Back then, in the metro NYC area, there were 2 Rock and Roll stations...Murray the K. ruled the airwaves....teh self proclaimed 5th Beatle....and his legions of "submarine race watchers"..but Satisfaction ruled that year..IT was #1 forever, and it was played like 5 times every hour, by every station on the radio..
Back in the day is not something I dwell on, but I caught Dylan a few times in the Village as well. WMMR in Philly was a truly underground station changing from a hellacious jazz station to underground. I also caught the Velvet Underground, Lothar and the Hand People, and Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention at a great place called The Trauma in Philadelphia... it predated the Electric Factory by a few months.
