Articles from FR you can pass around and convert others to FR?
(tying up the phone line to keep away tele-marketers? Are you FReeping from home?)
It's pretty cool. The hero is like a Sherlock Holmes of the Stone Age. He discovers that snake venom can be used to bring down large prey, discovers the aerodynamic principles behind making arrows fly straight, all kinds of cool stuff.
The book is really old, I read it, and all of his other books that I could find, in Junior High School, some mumblety-seven years ago.
I checked it out of our local library a few years ago, just to update my memory of it. Still holds up well.
Now if I could just turn up "Jungle Haven" ...

I aint tellin
LOL! I'm downloading articles for a paper I have to write.
And I'm FReeping at home right now. I was in the office earlier today for a meeting, and I was going to download the articles in my office (faster on the network), but the server went down and I couldn't log on to my office computer. Since I didn't have class or office hours, I just came home.
I freep and work. It is hard somedays but I work first freep second!
Flame suit on!!!!
:-D
I'm sure it hasn't been that long. :)
Welcome back.
Been one of those weeks.
One of those weeks? It's only Monday!
You are one busy girl! (Good thing you got rid of those cheetos!)
LOL! Don't make me crave them again. ;)
You are much more talented than I. I just do what I can.
Flame suit on!!!!
* scratches head * Okay, tell me what that means.
Oops! Sorry. Me and my big mouth.
LOL! That's okay. I'll just think of carrots... :)
Rawwwwwwwwwwwwk!
Saying that FReeping is second to anything will get you flamed some days.
LOL!
Shame on you. :)
Here's a review, from a Google search. Note the publication date.
Fire-Hunter, published in 1951, is the story of Hawk, a pre-historic man who is banished from his tribe for breaking the tribal law (Sound familiar Ms. Auel?) by inventing a spear-launching tool (The device is seen being used in the film Quest For Fire for you sticklers for detail).
He is left behind with Willow, an injured young woman abandoned by the tribe because of her inability to travel in the nomadic lifestyle they employ.
Hawk has to invent many tools, and becomes an innovative hunter to survive the harsh world around he and Willow. They are quite smart in fashioning a bow and arrow along with a lethal poison taken from snakes to bring down large game such as mammoth, bear, giant sloth and sabertooth tiger.
He domesticates a wolf cub/dog and so has a hunting companion. They live in the shelter of a cave where he defeated the previous occupant, a massive bear. She crafts pottery/tar-lined baskets to store food and water in. They survive many hardships; bitter cold winters, an attack from hostile Neanderthal-like people, and scarcity of food and game.
(So it could have been a Looong time ago!)
Just because it was published in 1951 doesn't mean that it was read in 1951. :)
