Long Walk Day
Olduvai Gorge was a long time ago. Weve walked for quite a long way.
Weve picked up things as we walked about, some habits seem likely to stay.
Weve learned to stay together, protecting each other from harm,
The father defending his children, as long as theres strength in his arm.
The mothers will tend to their hurtings, and cuddle them up in the cold.
The healthy lend strength to weaker ones, and patiently stand with the old.
Weve gotten to places so hidden away that you had to be born there to find,
And we learned the hard lessons and followed the rules, and we keep them firmly in mind.
Our strength is in our joining, our glue the words we share,
All journeys may have some reward, coming homes beyond compare.
Our eyes may be looking outward, our heart is in the home,
And when we find the truth of that, there is no need to roam.

Teachers dwell in some far-distant heaven,
Even the most plain and down-to-earth.
All your expertise and dedication
Captures our naive imagination,
Heightening the aura of your worth.
Eventually, that youthful admiration
Returns as we embrace what you have given,
Serving as the seed of our rebirth.
