The memogate forgeries may be somewhat outside our normal offshoring focus - but they are sufficiently important to the election that I have taken the liberty of bringing this thread to your attention.

As always, I'll look forward to your insights.

If you want on or off my offshoring ping list, please FReepmail me!

This whole case has me completely stumped.

I find the physical forgery so blatant that it must be a product of a complete naif -- but what naif would have any reason to go to the trouble of doing this? The spelling is good, and the sentences are reasonably adult in formulation, so I cannot see it being the product of a mere prank of youth.

But, as so many have pointed, who above the age of 30 would possibly have thought this product of Microsoft's Word could be mistaken for normal office memoranda that could be produced with typical 1970s equipment? The individual did not even take the trouble to try to change any of the default settings; surely he must have realized that this could not survive any serious scrutiny.

So I would guess that it must have been done by someone from, say from age 18 to age 30 or so. The individual did go to enough trouble to incorporate non-specious specifics, so this apparently took either some amount of research or personal cognizance.

And finally we have to factor in that CBS is acting very bizarrely in this. Even if Mr. Rather has gone senile, this forgery is brazen in the extreme, and I find him being unable to comprehend this fact unbelievable and simply not credible. The obfuscatory hogwash that he gave when challenged is not, imho, that of just desperate rationalization.

As to what could motivate him I cannot fathom, but it would seem to have been far better for him to simply admit that the documents are obviously forged, apologized for the error, and vowed to find out why he had been gulled. It would be too much to have hoped that he would have resigned in expiation for this, but at least to have admitted it would have shown far more integrity than trying to obfuscate.

First and foremost is defense of the country.

I do not believe that Bush is listening about the problems resulting from offshoring American jobs, but there's no way I can vote for Kerry.

I'll continue to voice my opposition to offshoring our jobs, but I will vote for Bush. I will then support candidates like Tom Tancredo, a Republican, who is trying to get something done about offshoring and open borders.

The Democratic Party has no answers and tries to shift the focus away from their man. I would have considered voting for a moderate Democrat, but there obviously aren't any left. The more I heard about Kerry and his sickening Senate testimony during the Vietnam War, the more I disliked the man. I didn't think they could put up someone worse than Clinton, but they certainly managed to.

These people are so arrogant they think they will get away with this fraud. I hope the internet will prove them wrong.
