Savage played some clips of what Bush said about Clinton. More 'compassionate' conservatism i guess. If that is the example we are to follow then I guess we should say good things about all the liberals now. Savage is not over the top kissin' Clinton's behind is over the top. I agree with Savage's assessment. Imagine how kissy kissy nice 'compassionate' conservatism as mandated by Bush will sound at our Republican convention. We might as well just let Democrats speak there.

You certainly have some Anti-Bush and Pro-Dem ideas there, NEWBIE.

Word of advice, if you want to survive around here, think before you bloviate.

I know how free-republic works thanks. I've lurked around for a long time. It champions conservative principles and ideals. So do I. And as is so does Savage. I'm not necessarily pro-dem, anti-Bush like you for some reason want to claim but I am staunchly pro-CONSERVATIVE. Aren't you? I see no reason for your threats to me.

Here's ONE reason:

Since Jun 13, 2004

And HERE'S another:

"We might as well just let Democrats speak there."

Savage is today (again) proving just what an ignorant PIG he is. He was just now criticizing the Reagan Funeral. He's too freakin' stupid to stop and think before he starts flapping his lips. And neither do his *few* supporters here (many of whom have just signed up).

Well I'm not really into name-calling so I won't stoop to that level. I really don't understand why signing up to post is any cause to be threatened, does not free-republic like "NEWBIES"?

Savage has his own style not for everyone I admit but I don't think his style warms to any liberals for it's still conservative ideals he promotes. My point about Democrats speaking at the convention was just to make a point, if your're going to be too nice 'compassionate' to your opposition they will just run roughshod over you.

I agree with you.

I really don't care to listen to Savage because of his constant negative tone. I happened to catch him today and I agree with him on this.

I read a number comments on here totally misrepresenting Savage. He never said anything about insulting Clinton. However, Bush sounded like he was delighted Clinton had been president.

Clinton is a disgusting man and he is not worthy of any praise.

Let's not forget:
1) He probably raped Kathleen Willey
2) took advantage of people like Paula Jones.
3) Lied under oath.
4) Fired people from the White House (Travel Staff) and then trumped up charges after the fact.
and much much more.

Do you think Bush would have done the same if his daughter had been one Bill Clinton's victim? Of course not. Being cordial is one thing but lifting Bill Clinton up as if he is something that he was not is going to far.

I don't know who he was appealing to. He certainly didn't appeal to me.

Careful lest you get labeled pro-dem, anti-bush. I'm surprised how a lot of people tend to tune in to Savage that don't care for him. I guess that would be akin to me tuning in to listen to say Err-America network. But I never did and never will because I already know I don't care for them.

I feel Savage makes very good points about Bush but I like to hear why he's wrong or I'm wrong for agreeing with him rather than to be threatened or called names the way they always do on the more liberal forums. I'm glad you share the same disgust I do about what happened today.

Are you sure? I said the same thing about Ken Hamblin when he railed against keeping little Elian here. I also said the same thing about Michael Medved when he belittled (and still does) everything Alan Keyes tries to do for this country. But I still listen to them when I can because in the long run I tend to like what they say more than not.

Yes, when Savage trashed Reagan and Thatcher that was it. I'll never listen to him again. He has lost all my respect. Im my book, he's up there with Michael Moore.

Well the problem is Savage never trashed Reagan. He does "trash" liberalism. He merely was down on what he considered "excessive" funeral coverage which is a little different than trashing Reagan the man.

I heard what he said about Thatcher's accent. I thought his take was funny eventho I didn't agree with it because I personally love her accent. But still it wasn't exactly as you're making it sound, a trashing of Thatcher and Reagan and the things they stand for. Are you sure your fuse with Savage wasn't already short to begin with?

Sorry, "considered "excessive" funeral coverage" is trashing Reagan, our greatest president of the 20th century, and it was not funny about Lady Thatcher. Thatcher was Reagan's right hand man. Savage has lost all respect, you'll not change my mind. At one time, I was like you, a staunch supporter. No more. He's gone over the deep end for me. My first presidential election was 1979. I followed Reagan through my years. Savage should have at least shown a smattering of respect for him. Even Bush today, in his speech to Clinton, showed respect for the office of Presidency. A sitting president to trash a former president, a speech that will go down in history, for all time, is not the time or place to introduce politics. I sincerely hope you enjoy him though. I'll not be tuning in any more.

You'll have to let us know if he comes back to conservative values, and stops the democrat level of trash and burn, because that what savage is about now.

I listen to talk radio at work via the internet. I like listening to Laura Ingraham in the morning and I'll sometimes leave it running throughout the day. The station also has Savage on it and that's why I heard him today.

I disagreed with him about the Reagan Memorial going too long. I got a good education about the Reagan year's last week. He seemed to think that everyone was tuned in 100 percent of the time to the coverage of Reagan, I certainly wasn't. I mostly enjoyed Laura's show over any other because she actually worked in the administration and she had a number of guests that worked with Reagan also. I loved that fact that she always knew Reagan was coming because you could hear laughter in the hall.

He's the Loserdopian's man on the radio.

When hatred for libertarians is the only tool you have, everyone must look like a libertarian to you.  It makes you look like an indiscriminating clod, but c'est la vie.

That's fine. I just want to keep things in perspective. Aren't we all vying for the same things here? Reagan didn't stand for "funeral tributes", Thatcher didn't stand for the authenticity of accents, and personally I'm not sure the decorum displayed by Bush today was out of decorum or out of Bush's convictions. That's worth perusing over when you look at the overall big conservative picture.

I still don't see where Savage's criticisms have been directed at any of the principles or ideals that Reagan and Thatcher espoused. I think he's still a strong ally in the battle against liberalism. Sorry you now think otherwise.
