Head to Phillie Phanatic Costume Missing
Mon Feb 9, 3:55 PM ET
PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Phillies' green furry mascot has completely lost his head.
On Friday, the Phillie Phanatic's noggin vanished from the Wachovia Center during the Phillies' Final Pieces charity sale and auction of mementos from now-shuttered Veterans Stadium.
Tom Burgoyne shed the getup during a break and made the grim discovery when he returned to the unlocked makeshift changing room off the arena's concourse.
"The head was gone," he said.
A security videotape showed no sign of the headnapper.
"I didn't do it," general manager Ed Wade told the Philadelphia Daily News.
Burgoyne has a backup costume, but he is hoping for the return of the $3,000 head.
Phillies spokesman Larry Shenk said Monday that the team had not determined whether a reward would be offered for the safe return of the head. There were no leads in the theft, he said.

That's the least of their problems. The new stadium is scheduled to open in mid April and they're no where near where they should be. The wrong size steel was ordered for several major supports and the welders have been working around the clock to get it fixed. Cincinnati and Pittsburgh have already been contacted and told they may need to be ready for an unscheduled road game.
Still according to Dave Montgomery "The stadium only looks like it's not near completion from the outside... or from above if you fly over in a helecopter."
