The Hobbit Hole V - Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...
ecurbh

Posted on 12/11/2003 2:07:57 PM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Well, very long flowing manes and tails are one of the things that defines the style of the Arabian breed.... so if they do show Arabs in hunt or dressage, they either leave the manes free, or do a sort of french braid or net-looking braid that we can do with a long mane...

For horses that are hunter or dressage -type, they pull the manes short (and even (this is the part that is against the religion of Arab-people), and their braids are single braids, all the same size and length, pulled back under themselves in a little loop. a whole row all the way down the neck. That is what AAM is talking about.

Don't you have a non-stop flight? It will be a breeze once you get on your plane. I think Hair is sending cell-phone numbers all around, so you can call one of us if you need anything. I'll have mine on probably the whole day on Friday, so you can call mine. I'll freepmail it to you so you can write it down and put it with your traveling stuff.

When you arrive in Manchester, go to the ticket counter and ask if there's any way the three of you can be seated close together. If the flight isn't full, they won't have a problem with that. Most folks don't pick their seats out beforehand, so the ticket agent could probably accomodate you. Ask the agent if you can go ahead and get the boarding passes for your connecting flight while you're there. Sometimes they can do that! It will sure make it easier for you if the flight is running a little later than it should!

People aren't all bad are they g'nad?

It sounds like this guy, and his family, need a non-military HHD "care package" as a way of thanking him, and brightening things up a bit. Maybe we can get together a package of suitable goodies to thank him for helping one of our own, and to lighten his burden a bit.

Maybe a HHD pocketknife is appropriate for "service above and beyond", while others here could send some "thank you " goodies.

That'll be ME! I believe I'm the designated Hobbit Taxi for your arrival group. I'll be waiting for you at the fountain where the concourses all meet. That's what ksen said last week would be the best place for everyone to meet. I'll be holding an ENTMOOT sign!

Hmmm ... do people really use Arabs to hunt?

Thought they'd be a bit ... hmmm ... refined for such work ...?

And I don't own weapons so I'm ok there.

Yes you do, you just don't know what they are. But BATF does. I talked to a BATF agent who bragged how he could (and did) get convictions on anyone for "possession of bomb-making materials" based on everyday items found in any household.

He has seven kids ... what ages and sexes?

Were they doing Christmas? If the house burned down the 22nd, they didn't get a Christmas at all.

I could chip in for that ...

Everyone was very impressed with it, and with the story of what we've done in supporting the troops. So it was also a bit of a evangelizing tool. ;-)

With 103 knives produced to date, maybe it's time to put the knife's story on ecurbh's web site, so people can read up on it when they visit. I can provide a narrative, and better pictures, if that's what's needed.

Not many, you're right... I guess that is back to my point.... I hung out with Arab-show-people, and didn't know many hunters. Though Part Arabs and some of the larger Polish types are pretty good jumpers! I jumped my Arabs in local competitions! It still is more a question of type and style than a limitation on the breed.

I must say that Arabs are not too refined for hard work... they are pretty, but tough.... They dominate in Long distance cross country racing... 50 and 100 mile races...

Rosie could tell you how the old houses were contructed in Vermont. The fronts were regular houses, but there were connecting buildings going all the way back to the dairy barns! Folks didn't have to go out in the snow to milk their cows, and even if the barns weren't artificially heated, all those cows being together must have kept each other warm!
