The Hobbit Hole V - Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...
ecurbh

Posted on 12/11/2003 2:07:57 PM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Well, I put that fancy-smancy cream on and the cashmere socks my mom gave me...did a pretty good job of making them soft, but they are still deeply split open.

I have that same problem often enough. Usually, I end up using Vaseline or Lubriderm, and cover with socks. I have learned to not go around the house without socks on (cuz my feet dry out so badly), but does that stop me?? Nooooo. I still go barefoot all the time, and still wear my sandals and my Clark's all the time, too. Nuthin else fits anymore cuz my feet are swollen.

That stuff looks good! - I can't believe they don't fly at all.... My ex-boyfriends mothers' free-range chickens sure did... they roosted way-the-heck-up (that is an actual measurement) in trees.

Like what?

How 'bout a T-shirt that says, "I took a Siesta in the Sombrero Room."

LOL My feet got swollen so that I wore those classic Berkinstock sandals to church when I was expecting Matthew.

I think wearing my rubber boots in the back yard has done something to exacerbate this.

Lets all post photos of our feet.

Mine aren't dry, but I do have a mild case of athlete's foot from time to time.... damp as it is here all the time and workin' out in the wet.

As you know, I was very hurt that Myranda went on that trip with them. I know it sounds strange but I know I wasn't invited because they knew I wouldn't have gone. Which is true, I wouldn't have gone. But, I would not go because I made a decision years ago that I don't want to live with a lot of violence anymore. Myranda never saw violence until now. And it was pretty mild so she doesn't know much still yet. But, it was an eye-opener. I guess she is going to have to learn for herself. I tried to keep her away from it but she's got to turn back around and go see for herself. God I hope I don't ever have to go pull her from a situation where somebody's beat her up. I will not show much restraint if it comes to that. I have reached the point in my life where I just don't have the patience to handle it gently.

Depends on the breed. Roy and the Buff Orpies are "heavy" and can't really make it that far off the ground. It's funny to watch them when they flap up on top of the coop door...like "Ooomph!!!" ROFLOL.

Jar jar, however, can fly. She likes to fly way up into the trees, but even so, she "steps" up the tree, flying from one branch to another, not straight flight up.

Alas, she can't even flap up to the lowest branch...we keep one wing trimmed and it spirals her in a circle.

She's broke of the tree habit now, but right after we trimmed her wing, she would try to flap up into the tree, land with a thud and then just cry. No kidding, it was a heart-rending sound.

I got real big feet...

But are they soft and pretty? - or scaley, dry, calloused or cracking?

ecurbh, I must say, has really pretty feet.

Gee, I didn't really think about this being such a prevalent problem. I go barefoot all the time too. Years ago someone told me that if I'd rub olive oil on my feet after baths or before bed I wouldn't ever have cracking feet anymore. I do use olive oil now. I still go barefoot and I haven't had a crack in years and years. Don't know if ya'll want to try it or not - it's oily - so put it on when your feet have time to kinda absorb it.

Hey! Love the Horsie Pix.

Here are mine from the Fox Hunt this weekend. I did carry a camera on board, but I was a little preoccupied so didn't get a lot of good shots.

But the hunt has a photographer on a four wheeler who scoots around and sets up at promising locations -- and lo and behold he actually got a couple of pix of yours truly and the Gracie Mare. They're copyrighted so I can't post 'em here, but you can peek here (an itty bitty fence early in the hunt, but at least we're both showing good form) and here. Her canter as she starts up the hill is lovely, and she's bent just right. (She's not as awkward as she looked in that other pic I posted.) And that's my daughter Snufkin on the bright bay right behind me. It was her first hunt and she had a great time. Her horse Magnum Force belongs to our trainer, and he was a perfect gentleman and carried her very nicely.

Then I'd have to worry about size.....dunno if he'd wear it.

Maybe a pecan log from Stuckeys.

I think my feet usually look pretty good! 'Specially when I have the toenails painted red. Steve (who prefers I wear nothing like that...no polish, no make-up) just shakes his head every spring when I show up with my blazing red toenails! LOL I don't care...I do it every spring and all summer long.

But I've been running around a lot in these rubber boots this year...moreso than ever before because of the chicken poop. I think it must be the boots.

FWIW, I have found that Zim's Crack Creme really works. My feet sometimes crack in the summer when I'm in and out of the water a lot, but I mostly use it on my hands because I do a lot of rough work and they really suffer. Another good product I've used is called Lotil and comes in a white tube with red letters. It's a little hard to find in this country, it's made in England. It's stinky but it works and it absorbs better than the oils.
