The best used bookstore in the area moved far away...they now run it out of their house and it's nowhere near a downtown area. I think really the couple is retired, so they aren't worried about getting much in the way of traffic. But it's hard on us addicts!

This one downtown is a very odd sort of place. The guy that runs it isn't a literary type at ALL. And the whole place is somewhat unorganized and put into slapdash categories. But they generally have LOTS of older paperbacks, which is what I care about! And, like I said, he often will take books as credit.

Just don't bring a pen knife. :)

Get there 1 hour to 1 and 1/2 hours before the flight.

Go to airline counter (or express check-in terminal) for boarding pass and check in luggage, if any. Make sure you have your driver's license as an ID.

Go through security.

Find gate.

Use restroom.

Wait.

Wait.

Wait.

Get on plane and enjoy the flight.

Make sure you don't leave anything on the plane when you leave

If you have to make a connection, look at the departure monitor to find out the gate for your next flight. Check in with the airline person at the gate for a boarding pass.

Use restroom.

Wait.

Wait.

If you miss your connecting flight, they'll usually re-route you. Actually....Southwest will hold flights for people making connections if it's only a matter of minutes.

Upon arrival....use the restroom...check arrival terminal to find out where you pick up your luggage. Collect luggage. Look for a HHD with a car. :)

I'm trying to make little lists. I found a couple short sleeved shirts. Got to wash my spare pair of jeans. Camera. Phone and charger. Escaflowne dvds. Books for the plane. Underwear, pajamas. Meds and toothpaste. What else?

Thanks.... I don't have any connecting flights. I just have to get me and my stuff (not checking anything) to Florida.

And I don't own weapons so I'm ok there.

SQ: LSA and I both liked that one, seems all the mothers must've read the same book on first aid. Couldn't remember which it M word it was. The old cloth band-aids, got to keep the empty tin, I had quite a few of those for keeping stuff in. Firecrackers stored especially well in them. :-)

We were trying to figure out what other movies to bring, if any. And I'm bringing my mandolin, hopefully. They'd better not try to make me check it.

I thought about doing that...but I don't have forty dollars, plus the siblings and Dad all said I shouldn't.

But that leaves me in the air where the ride back is concerned, which isn't good. Not a lot of time to figure this out.

I'm sure it'll fall into place at the last second, and I'll worry until then and the other two will say "See? Told ya so."

I hate it when that happens. Except that I want a ride, of course.

Rosie; glad to see you're back; good job on the books and the computer stuff.

Regarding the mandolin, I'd check with airline and see what they say, but I'd have a backup plan in case TSA says "steel strings-no way" or some such 'on the spot rule'. Haven't seen many instruments in carry on recently. Just an observation.

I've seen guitars carried on and my sister didn't have to check Squirrely when she played Vegas last year.

It does fit under a seat - I've carried it on before, though it was before 9/11. So I'm hopeful it'll make it on.

If not...I'll just have to risk checking it. It's in a good sturdy case, and barring extreme circumstances, it should be OK. But I'm pretty sure I'll have no problem carrying it on. It's certainly smaller than many bags I've seen people carry on, though once again, I haven't traveled since 9-11.

I know a guy at work who just went on a trip with his mando...I'll have to ask him how that went.

They were letting guitars on. And then I did see guitar cases come down the baggage claim too.

Last time I traveled with a guitar I checked it. There's no way I wanted to lug that thing on, not to mention have it potentially fall out of the overhead rack and hurt someone.

But I have a super strong case for THAT instrument, too. It would take a truck driving over it to do much harm.

The mando case isn't as strong, but it isn't chipboard, either. I'm not too worried about that. More about the getting to the right plane at the right time thing.
