Fifteen years working as an emergency room nurse has convinced Kim Bogan that the only way to fix the American healthcare system is to tear it down and start over.
Her patients arriving for triage are sicker than ever. They can't afford many of the prescriptions they get in the ER. And sometimes when patients die, she wonders if she could have saved them had she not been caring for five or six other people at once.
That's why she spent the past year shuttling between 12-hour shifts at this city's Sparrow Hospital and campaigning for Abdul El-Sayed, the Democrat who made "Medicare for All" a signature issue in his congressional campaign and is now a senator-elect.
But she realizes that just because progressive candidates successfully campaigned on some form of the policy in states such as Texas, Iowa, Maine, and Michigan, it doesn't mean Medicare for All will be an easy sell. "Nobody expected that," Bogan said.
Medicare for All typically refers to a government health program that would guarantee Americans coverage by replacing most or all private insurance. Critics are already pointing out that, even in a blue wave as massive as the 2026 midterms, the most vocal Medicare for All champions generally won by smaller margins than more moderate Democrats.

And under the original “ObamaNoCare” program, that meant the elimination of ALL non-government health insurance plans and possibly facilities and doctor’s offices.
Is my memory correct on this? Thanks.
The communists destroy everyting they touch....EVERYTHING.
This will be no exception..count on it.
Medicare is not cheap. I suspect they mean Medicaid for All
Correct.
Wait'll she gets a load of the new Musloid grooming gangs in Dearborn.
While she's breaking in her new hijab, waiting in line for her FGM operation and listening the great Daily Call To Prayer blasting on the mosque loudspeaker, she can dream about "Medicare For All"...
My husband just retired in June, so we are now forced to have Medicare. It costs us twice as much as it did when he was employed.
I guess people think it’s very inexpensive. It isn’t for us!
Does it matter if you get No Care or No Aid? I don’t think so.
This site used to laugh at the stupid Brits. Now WE are in the shotgun.
Count on it.
Thank you Sen Thune for giving us this nightmare to look forward to.
Medicare Part B
$608.70/quarter
Over $2,400/year
In my three years on it, I’ve gotten a pneumonia shot.
If I felt healthy, I wouldn’t have bought in.
what part of we are broke dont liberals understand?
Yes, I’m sure Trump can hardly wait to veto that one. 😉
Medicare Part B covers doctors, injectable drugs and physical therapy.
My $2,400+/year is meant to cover 1/4th the government’s payout/covered person, on average.
That means Medicare Part B doctors, injectable drugs and physical therapy cost over $12,000/covered person on average.
Who says they don't? Don't take what they say at face value.
Bankrupting the system is a revolutionary tactic.
If Mrs. Unlucky needs X, X is going to cost a private insurer as much if not more than than it would cost Medicare because Medicare demands best pricing.
The only savings is if Mr. Unlucky can do about as well on Y, which is far cheaper than X.
existing system:
employer+employee premiums -> insurance company -> payouts to providers
checks: Pay to the Order of Insurance Company
******************************************
Medicare for All (except the union elite):
employer+employee taxes -> Uncle Sam -> insurance company administrator -> payouts to providers
checks: Pay to the Order of CMS Medicare

It’s five times a day!
For health care, bring on market force:
1. Break most hospitals into two highly competitive entities.
2. Convert other hospitals into real estate leasing entities with competing surgical suites and nursing wings.
3. Separate out drug coverage so hospital systems can run care coverage systems and cut out insurance company overhead and meddlers.
4. Create interstate drug plans that don’t have to pay what the drugmaker wants for every drug. To qualify for exchange listing and federal subsidies, they would have to most (~80% or more) in all important types (large volume recombinant, small volume recombinant, breakthroughs under patent, etc.). Group and exchange plans to offer time-limited vouchers at plan set amounts for out-of-formulary drugs. Voucher plans would have variable premiums. Plans without minimums (or vouchers) could be vended directly to individuals and families.
5. These plans would be all the doctors (and computer algorithms) prescribe for formulary drugs with co-pays equal to manufacturing cost.
6. Reform medical education, breaking down medicine and dentistry into simpler chunks and start it in the first year of college.
7. Replace most primary care doctoring with algorithmic computer-based care.
(Insurers would pay human doctors to confirm computer diagnosis, orders for expensive tests[MRI, genetic], prescribe radiation imaging[CT, PET, X-ray]/treatment, and voucher/government co-pay drugs. Other human doctor care would be private pay.)
8. Place radioisotope-related care at international airport centers.
