On Tuesday, Oct. 20, FiftyPlusOne reached out to Wedgewood Polls, a self-professed polling firm, with a request for comment on an investigation we had conducted into their alleged survey research. They did not respond to our request, but instead posted a public statement on social media admitting that they had been fabricating data. They also reached out directly in social media DMs minutes before publishing their memo with an official comment: “**** you,” plus the name of an individual not affiliated with FiftyPlusOne.
Their statement alleges that FiftyPlusOne, the New York Times, and other poll aggregators did not conduct appropriate vetting of their firm prior to aggregating their polls; this is false. We reached out to them to ask who they were and confirm the methodology statement on their website.

The article is brutally thorough. It is what investigative journalism should be, unlike the usual finding some tweets which duplicate the author's opinion and are used as proof of public opinion.

Think about it - “polling” is as bullshit as it gets.
We could publish a “FR Poll” that shows every Republican ahead by some amount and fake up the data to support it. Even before AI which makes it trivially easy, a simple BASIC program on a Commodore 64 could have done it - and no doubt did as this has been going on for decades.
Put out a “poll” and some idiots will think it’s real. Some other idiots will “examine the internals” and proclaim it to be legit - well of course it looks that way because it was designed to look legit!
Anyone who accepts what “pollsters” say should also accept what MSNOW, CNN< etc put out because it’s all fake news.
