Ruger announced a major change to several of its longtime product lines this week, stating that it would immediately suspend production of several models while finishing out current production runs of other models through 2026.
"Ruger announced changes to several current-generation product families yesterday as part of our ongoing Ruger 2030 strategy," said Abbey Clary, Ruger's director of media, advertising and public relations. "This does not necessarily mean these product families are permanently discontinued."
Effective immediately, Ruger is ceasing production of its LCR, SP101, GP100 and Bearcat revolvers. The company plans to complete its final production runs of the following models for 2026: SR1911, LC Carbine, PC Charger, PC Carbine, LC Charger, Redhawk, Super Redhawk, Blackhawk, Super Blackhawk, Single-Series revolvers, Vaquero, No. 1, 77-Series rifles, Hawkeye and Ruger Precision Rifle.

without reading the article....sounds big, what’s the problem?
Always wanted a Ruger Bearcat revolver since the late ‘60s, never bought one, but do have a limited edition Ruger Old Army cap and ball revolver with a 5 1/2” barrel with fixed sights in stainless steel now worth a couple thousand dollars.
As regards the Vaquero, if the 1873 is your cup of tea models from Uberti and Pietta can be had for less money. Same with the 1911. You can get a Tisas 1911 cheaper, and the quality is good. I’ve owned one for 2 years and I love it.

It comes down to numbers. Are they producing a supply that outrun demand? They have the numbers and predictive software to determine what and how much they should produce. They make a good product but should follow economics.
Had it since the mid 80’s and have over 13k full house rounds through it.
The Vaquero is a victim of the drop off of Cowboy Action Shooting. I worked for 6 years at Founder’s Ranch where the SASS End of Trail shoot was held. The sport was aging out and not drawing as many new shooters. Shooting games change over time, as Bullseye waned with the rise of ISPC and the like, and trap and skeet lost out to sporting clays. At a certain point it doesn’t make sense to produce new guns for a sport that the used market can supply, or as you wrote, replicas.
Not sure why Ruger jumped on the 1911 bandwagon, when so many others filled the market.
Might have to buy my 3rd Super Blackhawk, just because.
What’s left?
The Ruger precision in 6.5 is a hell of a piece.
In addition, the cost was significantly higher compared to others.
Bought a ruger old army a few years back. 1972, blued, 7 1/2 in barrel, adjustable sights. Got 45 LC cylinder. Carry it to the field a lot. Heavy but gets the job done. Lotsa character. Not worth much. Paid $400. It’ll sell after my expiration date.
One could argue Ruger tried to get into to many calibers instead of keeping it simple.
The Ruger GP-100 in .44 special is a nice gun but not in high demand.
I suspect Ruger is facing retirements among the greybeard experts.
I own two of ‘em.
What’s Left ... ?
10-22s and ARs.
.
They’re Charger is interesting but
It’s with out a Real Purpose
Surprising to see the SP101 and GP100 on the list. I own both and I consider them some of the finest revolvers I’ve ever collected/fired.
GP 100 Match Champion in .357
Is a True Beauty.
Trigger like I’ve never Known and
Accurate....
She is Going Out Next !

Cheers
