President Donald Trump openly encouraged Democratic Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania to switch parties and become a Republican just weeks before the midterm elections could reshape control of Congress.
“I’d love to see him as a Republican,” Trump told reporters at Joint Base Andrews on Saturday as he returned to Washington from a rally in Tennessee. “He does better as a Republican than he does as a Democrat.”
The comments were among the most direct overtures by Trump to woo Fetterman into the GOP, a matter of growing importance as the party could lose its Senate majority in next month’s elections. With his everyman appeal, Fetterman was a Democratic star when he was first elected to the Senate in 2022. But during his time in Washington, he has split with Democrats on issues ranging from immigration to Israel, leading to speculation that he might switch parties.
A representative for Fetterman didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
Fetterman has repeatedly rejected the notion of becoming a Republican, writing in The Washington Post in May that he would be a “terrible Republican who still votes overwhelmingly with Democrats.”
His relationship with fellow Democrats became more tenuous after he recorded a video for the Republican midterm convention last month praising his fellow Pennsylvania senator, Republican Dave McCormick, suggesting there were extremists in his party.
“I’m always going to stand with America,” Fetterman said in the video. “I’m always going to reject the extremes and socialism and that anti-American way of life.”
Such flirtations with the GOP could make it extremely difficult for Fetterman to win the Democratic nomination for another term in the Senate, a prospect Trump raised on Saturday as he encouraged the party switch.

No! Instead have fetterman recruit more like minded people to join Democrats. If we can move the democrats to the right we will be better off.
Fetterman is a loose cannon, regardless of his party affiliation.
Trump was right to back Dr. Oz, who has become a stellar figure in the administration. Dr. Oz was the better choice because Fetterman votes leftist in nearly all roll calls. Yet he just happens to support Israel.
Fetterman supports the Trump Administration in the Iran War.

Actually, we do. Any Republican is better than any Democrat. At least at this point.
Better a RINO than a woman-hating, child-molesting, science-denying, baby-killing, crypto-fascist, mentally ill, US-hating Democrat. Which is what he would be replaced with in his own party.
If he switches sides, he might even wear suits.
But wed’d love him even if he wore his jammies to work.
No, a RINO isn't any different than having a RAT in the seat. People complain about the RINO's all the time, but if they keep voting for them, even though they know they are crap, just to keep the seat Republican, all they're doing is perpetuating the RINO problem. That's why there's a McConnell, a Thune, a Cornyn, a Murkowski, a Collins, a Tillis destroying Trump's agenda and stabbing Americans in the back.

It's quite possible to be more disgusted by a RINO then a dem as the left are like bears crapping in the woods, that's what they do, end of story. OTOH a RINO has a choice and if they side with the left they are the → → enemy. ← ←
Glad to see some of them turned out this year, a beautiful thing.
Uncle Fester is a dead Senator walking. If he stays a democrat he will get primaried for not being liberal enough. If he switches parties he will be primaried for being too liberal. Either way he is a one term Senator. It’s a shame because he is one of the last sane democrats left.
