Last month I spent a few hours talking with scientists at Science Systems and Applications Inc. about their work, both their internal projects within SSAI and their support for NASA projects and the broader Moon to Mars Architecture.
We talk about exploring the moon using spacecraft that were designed to study the earth. Evidence for water on the moon and proposals to study the flows of water around the surface. Space weather hazards. Asteroid impacts and impacting asteroids and why Mars needs a weather forecast if we're really going to explore it. The Questions We Need To Answer,
The Solutions We Must Find

🚀🛰️ I've got a fourth browser now, to handle more than one or very large transcripts all at the same time, hat tip to Tor. Trouble is, I've got about three or four on deck, and used up the capacity on earlier ones, so I have to wait 90 minutes or so. Fun and games. BBut, it's a beautiful day, and I've got a couple of errands.
Re: Mars weather forecasting
They’re getting pretty good at 100-yr climate forecasts now, so a forecast for the 6-9 months it takes to get to Mars with current technology shouldn’t be a problem, right?!
(^^^sarcasm^^^)
A huge amount of money and probably many lives will be expended to travel and explore what appears to be a huge lifeless planet. It will be done but doubt it will be renumerative. Elon Musk has made a career proving skeptics wrong. However doubt most alive today will live to see how this turns out.
Anybody who gets to Mars will never come back. See Youtube video by Richard Feynmann.
Physicists such as Feynman have shown any plan to reach Mars with our current level of technology is doomed to failure for reasons which are in human terms insurmountable. The earliest missions will be made by individuals who will have to be resigned to never ever being able to return to earth in their own lifetimes. The concept of refurbishing or re-supply or carrying what you need for getting back completely breaks down due to sheer distance. The fuel needed to return to earth will be impossible to obtain at the end of the outward journey and would have to be included as part of the original payload going out to the planet. At present technical levels an impossibility. Mars is not the Moon and the distances are multiplicative although they may not seem so at first glance. That is just for starters. People need to read up on this kind of thing before drawing conclusions based on imaginative but faulty wishful thinking. Physics and mathematics and astronomic limitations are immoveable and unforgiving. It’s all out there for us to understand but hope springing foolishly eternal is far more attractive than hitting the books.
God forbid you needed a spare part for your vehicle once you got to Mars. Between communications delays (weeks or months for sending and receiving the SOS to and from Earth ) and fulfillment of the actual shipment requiring a second launch and second vehicle and an additional eight or nine-month journey just to get it back to you would be in human terms a catastrophy waiting to happen.

IMHO, to host a self-sustaining colony, Mars will have to have an introduced 78 percent N 22 percent O Earthlike atmosphere. As the gases will have to be found in and moved from the outer Solar System, it'll take decades to start to arrive, maybe a couple of centuries to get done.
And before anyone starts, even if the "no magnetic field means the solar wind strips away the atmosphere" trope is true, it'll take millions of years to happen.
Faking all of it is easier and cheaper.
Most folks around here would definitely be fooled.
Agree. Either you beleive Einstein and the experiment proven laws of physics or you believe UFOs are real mechanical entities containing live aliens from the incomprehensible distances of remote galaxies or stars in this galaxy. You can’t believe both. However you can never stop human beings from exexcising their ability to imagine and fantasize.
As long as the Soviet Union and Red China, and all the other nations of the world with science keep supporting us saying that we landed on the moon, we will be alright, it was very gracious of them all to go along with us and to keep doing it forever.
The trick to getting to Mars and back is using local resources. Since a person landing on Mars will have to stay 500 days before another launch window opens up that is plenty of time to create the fuel they need for the return mission.
I am reading an excellent book on this subject:
https://www.amazon.com/One-Giant-Lie-Mankind-Missions/dp/B0HC3D6ZDV
One of the early chapters discusses the exact issue you raise—evidence for (and motivation for) the Soviet Union complicity in the coverup.
He reviews the history of the Soviet space program (pre Apollo) and concludes the Soviets faked everything and lied about it.
He then asks the inverse of your question—why did the Americans help the Soviet Union cover up their space fakery?
It was a propaganda version of Mutual Assured Destruction.
If you expose my lies I will expose your lies.
Meh. Who wants to go to the New World, anyway? /sarc
We just need to use the propulsion systems Bob Lazar told us are at Area 51 - S4
Read my post, it was not just the absurd idea that the Communists in Russia supported us, but the entire world, and forever it seems since the world still knows it is simply factual history and that all this global space activity ever since is just a continuation of those science and technological accomplishments.
The world knows what they are told.
Propaganda exists because it works.
