“To me, centrists can go **** themselves,” said Léa Zimmerman, 34. “They’re ******* useless, they don’t stand for anything, and if they do stand on something, it’s pathetic. I’m done with pathetic, performative people.”
On Tuesday the biggest city in the US, and the wealthiest city in the world, rejected the status quo in favour of democratic socialism. Five days earlier Washington DC, the nation’s capital, did the same in a mayoral primary election. Los Angeles, the heart of the global entertainment industry, could soon follow suit. Leftwing candidates have also notched up wins in Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Washington state and Wisconsin.
Once sacred tenets of US politics – unyielding support for Israel, unquestioning faith in capitalism – are under threat from surging frustration with the old way of doing things. No one personifies the tectonic shift better than Mamdani, 34, a democratic socialist who is also the first Muslim mayor in New York’s history.
As results rolled in on Tuesday evening, he flexed his political muscle after backing three insurgent candidates in Democratic primary elections for the US House of Representatives. All had promised to “abolish ICE [Immigration and Customs Enforcement]”, condemned Israel’s “genocide” in Gaza, and vowed to “tax the rich”. All emerged triumphant.

The media wants the voters to think that Trump is worse than a Nazi — a warmonger who has destroyed the economy, a corrupt law-breaker who ignores all the judicial rulings against him. Meanwhile, Trump isn’t like that at all, and in fact Trump is not running in 2026.
The Democrat Party, on the other hand, is proposing a communist revolution so that we can eat the billionaires, nationalize the housing stock, and stomp all over the Christians. They seem proud of these brave positions, and they want to make sure you know it.

Maybe ancient history, but in 1972, McGovern was far left for that era, and Nixon won an historic landslide.
I know there would not be such a landslide in 2028, because we can pencil in a dozen states right now, for the Democrat nominee, no matter how far left that nominee is in 2028.
But just thinking ,the farther left the Democrats are, in our two party system ,mthat can only help the Republicans.

Short answer is “no.”
Long answer is control of the White House is serious business for the people who decide the Democratic Party nomination for President. They thought Mamdani beating Cuomo was a one-off result of Cuomo being so roundly disliked, but now it’s now vividly clear that the DSA can win primaries if not effectively opposed. With 20 months to work with they will be damn sure a reliable Biden/Obama-type gets the nomination.
The trial lawyers, immigration advocates, public employee unions and LGBTQ lobbyists simply cannot let Trump be succeeded by another Republican, which is very likely the result if Ocasio-Cortez or someone of her ilk is the nominee. Even though the Jewish billionaires can switch to Republicans, they really, really, really don’t want to face that choice.
What I think is really interesting is the hazard for rich-kid good-hair middle-aged white gentiles like Newsom or Beshear. If I’m a Hispanic political bosses why not demand Padilla or Becerra? If I’m the bosses why not saying Harris gets another chance, or Cory Booker or Wes Moore. If I’m the Jewish billionaires why go for broke against the Hamas crew and say it’s Stein or Shapiro or my dough and media go Republican?
