Notre Dame seeks foreign worker to teach English

Also looking to hire a librarian using the H1-B visa worker program

The University of Notre Dame says it cannot find any American to teach English and so it must fill the job with a foreign worker visa.

The Catholic university in South Bend, Indiana filed a “Notice of Intent to Hire,” indicating it plans to hire a professor of English under the H1-B visa program.

The assistant professor job pays just over $87,000 and that is not including benefits.

It pays more than the chemistry professor position the university is also seeking to fill with foreign workers.

Other jobs the university says it must fill by hiring non-Americans include and associate librarian ($96,000 per year), a marketing program analytics manager ($85,000 per year), and a “program coordinator for student success” ($47,000 per year).

The H1-B visa program has faced criticism over allegations it undermines Americans. Other Indiana universities have also sought to fill jobs including assistant tennis coach and IT roles using non-Americans.

Immigration expert Kevin Lynn previously criticized universities for hiring foreigners instead of Americans.

This trend of hiring foreign labor means “[c]ompetition from foreign workers willing to accept lower salaries can suppress starting and mid-level pay for domestic graduates,” he told The College Fix last December. He is the founder of U.S. Tech Workers.

“Hiring foreign workers is often easier, cheaper, and more predictable,” he said.

In January, Texas Governor Greg Abbott froze government entities from hiring foreign workers.

“The economy of Texas should work for the benefit of Texas workers and Texas employers,” Governor Abbott wrote in a letter.

He wrote further:

In light of recent reports of abuse in the federal H-1B visa program, and amid the federal government’s ongoing review of that program to ensure American jobs are going to American workers, I am directing all state agencies to immediately freeze new H-1B visa petitions as outlined in this letter. State government must lead by example and ensure that employment opportunities — particularly those funded with taxpayer dollars — are filled by Texans first.

The pause extends through May 31, 2027, although employers can petition the Texas Workforce Commission for an exception, The College Fix previously reported.

I see the $100K fee was not enough to deter some companies. Double it. Make it $200K for each H1b and make them pay it for each renewal too.

Absolutely. For super specialized skills (like the ability to speak English), any company or university should be happy to pay an annual $200,000 fee to the US government, in addition to the annual salary paid to the H1-B worker imported from Somalia (or wherever).

If the primary task of an English professor is not to teach English but to teach Marxism, this makes sense. Marx was a European.

The point about this is that they want to hire non-Whites only.

There’s no other reason. We all know they aren’t looking for an Oxford Englishman, who would technically be a foreign worker.

They just want a wog.

I know most everything on social media today is about inciting, provoking, enraging...even if it means falsifying, all for the purpose of "engagement" (X is nothing but engagement bait.) I would like to see the exact statement from Notre Dame.

companies and universities who abuse the h1b program should be banned from using it for a minimum of 3 years.

It begs the question of what country are the students from that the English teacher likely needs to also speak their language. China? Ukraine? Syria?

“and a “program coordinator for student success” ($47,000 per year).” I identify as H1-B, can I have that job and work part time?

maybe they should just give up on teaching English and teach Ebonics instead: should be plenty of candidates to teach that ...

They should get the Nigerian guy who taught an advanced algebra class I had to take. His accent was so bad I had to notate everything off the blackboard as he wrote it, and quickly before he erased it to make room. That was before phone cameras.

Got a “C” much to my surprise. Never understood a word out of his mouth though most of the other students did. I must have racist ears.

It is just their way to hire non-white people.

The formerly Catholic school on the Saint Joseph River never fails to disappoint. It is a disgrace and an embarrassment to actual Catholics.

Brick and Mortar Unis are going to have scale back except for sciences that needs labs, Medicos that need hospitals and maybe Law Schools for the interpersonal negotiation and Court training.

If you hate it when you get stuck having to talk with a Indian who speaks crappy English on Customer/Tech support, you’ll love it when your Prof is going to teach you English when they can’t speak it properly. The geniuses who make these decisions need to be locked into stocks and pillories like back when this country was founded, with large baskets of rotten fruit and vegetables next to them. Teach them a lesson they will not forget, and maybe make the other idiots think twice about ever trying it again. A guy can dream, can’t he?

I might be wrong but I heard the $100,000 fee applies to for profit companies, not universities, charities and nonprofits.
