Despite being urged by President Trump to do away with the filibuster, Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) is adamantly against doing it. "Look,' Trump said, "the filibuster is not a law. It is not in the Constitution. It is just a long standing tradition that helped Democrats resist efforts to end slavery. Right now it is being used to prevent efforts to reduce vote fraud. Neither of these purposes for which the filibuster has been or is being used is good for the country."
Thune rebutted Trump's argument by pointing out "we Senators all respect each other. The filibuster protects the minority from being dissed by the majority. That's a good thing. Republicans aren't going to fire the first shot in the battle to eliminate the filibuster. I admit that there is a danger that the Democrats might. That will be shame on them, but our hands will be clean."
Trump reminded Thune that "many Democrats are already saying they plan to end the filibuster if they win a majority in the Senate, pack the Supreme Court, make Puerto Rico and DC states, and put an end to voter ID so even people who aren't citizens can vote. Can you not see what a disaster that would be for the country?"
"Yes, I can," Thune admitted, "but it won't be of our making. History will record that it was the Democrats who destroyed the country with these foolish and harmful changes."

“History will record that it was the Democrats who destroyed the country”
History will record no such thing!
History will record that Thune and his ilk weren’t just ‘mistaken’, they were the essential collaborators of the opposition. By treating a total power struggle as a polite debate, they handed the keys of the narrative to the very people who intend to erase them.
History isn’t a neutral ledger; it is the ultimate spoils of war. If the current hierarchy survives, Thune won’t be remembered as a ‘principled statesman.’ He will be written into the textbooks as a useful fool—the man who held the door open while the foundations were dismantled. He is trading his legacy for a seat at a table that is already being burned for firewood.
Those who prioritize outdated decorum over the survival of their own constituents are effectively volunteering to be the villains in the victor’s story. You don’t get credit for ‘playing by the rules’ when the other side is busy rewriting the rulebook to ensure you never win again
“Yes, I can,” Thune admitted, “but it won’t be of our making. History will record that it was the Democrats who destroyed the country with these foolish and harmful changes.”
This guy is so full of himself. You/re there to act on the will of the people, not to engage in log jam. The fillibuster was never set up that way. If there is dissent, let these Senators be heard, then you vote.
When I think of all the good that can be accomplished if we had a few more MAGA Senators or removal of the filibuster, I get optimistic again about the future of this. country.
This guy must go.
I don’t know which is worse:
“The filibuster protects the minority from being dissed by the majority.”
They don’t need a handicap. It’s winner take all and always has been. If the numbers are that bad, maybe the minority will realize they’re idiots or crooks.
“Right now it is being used to prevent efforts to reduce vote fraud.”
There is no fraud if a vote can’t be taken, only ineffectiveness, neutrality, and pointlessness.

History will record what a stupid, weak fool you are, Thune.
Who GAF about what history will record? Pompous idiot. History is written by the winners and they will write what a loser Thune was.
Thune couldn’t be more wrong. History will record Thunn as a coward who failed to step up in his time, when it was obvious.
Thune’s name will be recorded as a feckless quizzling.
Right now it is being used to prevent efforts to reduce vote fraud
/
It would be if thune was FOR election integrity
But he ain’t,
other wise he’d use it to prevent election and voter fraud.
Don’t b.s us with spin thune, you thug.
thune has to be the most naive and gullible gop 'leader' ever.
Well, history has been very forgiving of Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain. /s
learn to be self-aware
If you are going to keep the filibuster, then make it a real filibuster and not a gentleman’s filibuster. Force dems to hold the floor and talk. Use the old rules. This gentleman filibuster is BS. Thune is just weak — or corrupt
He should just admit that he is a demorat.
