Hayek and Von Mises were correct about "comparative advantage" economically on a theoretical basis, but they didn't understand the need for paying the price of bearing differential production costs for political reasons, something conservatives failed to grasp for way too long while Bushes and Clinton allowed regulatory agencies to ruin American manufacturing.
Wall Street betrayed this country chasing boomer 401k money, while the latter failed to grasp the import, so to speak. The Fed used it to mask inflation from deficit spending. And so on. I can point to any number of institutions who've played their part, but the bottom line has been degrading education for over a century.
