Seattle Police Chief Shon Barnes has made it official. If you wear the badge in this city and you don’t surveil federal immigration agents on the job, you could be fired.
Barnes told the Seattle City Council’s Select Committee on Federal Administration and Policy last Thursday that officers who fail to comply with the city’s new ICE documentation mandate will face discipline.
“This would be a violation of our policy, a violation of the law,” Barnes said. “They could be placed on administrative leave per the [Seattle Police Officers Guild] collective bargaining agreement.”
It’s hard to believe, but the far-left Seattle police chief is threatening his own officers with termination not for misconduct, not for use of force violations, not for corruption. But for refusing to film and document federal law enforcement doing their jobs.
The policy itself is a product of Mayor Katie Williams’ executive order and a city council vote requiring officers to record ICE agents, request their identification, and collect evidence for potential transmission to prosecutors. The city also plans to post more than 650 signs banning ICE from staging on city property.
ICE has already made clear it will not tolerate obstruction of federal law enforcement, and federal officials have sued jurisdictions that refuse to cooperate with immigration enforcement. Seattle is daring them to add another lawsuit to the pile.

Cops and their mayors are like NFL players working for their owners. The players and the cops have the upper hand and the cops don’t know it. They can quit or seek employment in red states. Being disciplined over political differences should not be put up with.

We are not as rich as Mr. Starbucks Coffee, but we wised up and left the Seattle area over 20 years ago. My wife was from Seattle, but when she retired from Bank of America, she said that’s it, we are out of here, we’re moving to your home in Alabama and bang, we packed and left six months later. Damned glad we did. My best friend is still behind enemy lines there, and he hates it, but cannot leave because his son and his family are still there. I wish he could come here, but not with a son and two beautiful granddaughters there, he won’t leave. When he starts ranting about crap there when we talk, I just smile to myself and go yeah, yeah, fully understand!!
