A visibly Jewish man was stabbed in the chest in Crown Heights NYC yesterday in what the New York Police Department is investigating as a hate crime against Jews.
The 35-year-old victim — whose name is not yet available — was walking down the infamous Kingston Avenue near Lincoln Place at about 5:00p.m. on the third day of the Jewish holiday Hanukkah when he was randomly accosted by a Black male.
The victim told police the deranged man walked up to him, started wielding his knife, and that he made antisemitic statements to his face. The perpetrator allegedly said “F*** these Jews,” and said it would “be alright if the Holocaust happened today.”

Little trivia I recently learned about, it’s illegal for civilians (not in select industries — e.g., guard) to purchase body armor in NY.
The purpose of this law is, of course, to make people easier victims.

A good dose of emotion and alarm and disgust are helpful to find the motivation. Then, we go do things to mitigate the threat.
I have been to the Gaza Envelop. Had the locals been uniformly armed, the hamass lot would have taken a severe beating that day, and very few Jews (<100?) would have been killed, in my opinion. So: Are you a gun owner? Will you now go get several? This is a first step. I recommend a 9mm semi-automatic, an AR pattern rifle, and a 12 Ga. shotgun. Lots of ammo, magazines, and training under stress. Make sure your access is good and legal, and be prepared should a real Kristallnacht come to America.
Are you prepared on the street? I hate carrying a pistol, which if you are willing is best. But I do carry a knife that I know how to use defensively and offensively, so that I am essentially inviolable to anything short of bullets. If a guy on the train tries to beat me, I’ll have him dead in a pool of blood in about 5 seconds. This is not hard to learn.
Further, get a self-defense discipline that involves knowing how to kill an attacker even without a gun or knife. If three guys jump you, you need to kill #1 and #2 first, then you can choose to merely maim #3 if you can throttle down your attack just enough. I really don’t have enough skills to do anything other than kill all three, though (if I’m lucky), so I’m a bit behind on this.

That’s one of many ways to put your literal body to the wheel and help.
Further, there is Situational Awareness. I taught myself to keep my head on a swivel as a natural course of going about my day. When I started, I realized that 6 people per day at the gym had totally walked up behind me unawares and could have clocked me cold. So I worked on that. Now, about 2 per month accidentally get into that dangerous space. It’s not impossible, but it would take someone really skilled with a lot of luck to catch me unawares. It becomes second nature, and you aren’t stressed out about it. Then, if a threat presents, you have space and time between recognition of the threat and deciding what to do about it.
There are whole sets of things we can do politically. Here, in the press, politically, etc. We FReepers are good at that, and I have nothing special to tell you.
There are things to do in the community, organizing, protecting, networking, etc. That’s useful, and I’m bad at it. What I do have is a couple of buddies nearby. When a homeless guy came BACK to confront me the day after I ran him off, I retreated inside and called my 2 buddies who showed up within 2 minutes. We are all physically capable and imposing, and between the three of us, let’s just say he moved along and hasn’t been seen since.
A very observant Jew can’t hide it. I’m less observant, and don’t often wear a kippah, Magen David, or tzitzis unless I’m “representing” (which I do on October 7th). If your observation is hit or miss, then think about where you’re going and whether public display of Judaism is important and how risky is it? Make decisions accordingly. I don’t wear a kippah or my several IDF T-Shirts unless I know I’m in good company. For Downtown Portland or Seattle, my goyisher second wife has told me she’d refuse to go with me if I did, and I wouldn’t anyway. No use tempting fate.
So take the energy of your post and deploy it to acts that help address the problem.
