The ACLU used to pretend it supported free speech. Then it abandoned free speech and joined the rat pack of radical leftist groups trying to out-radical each other.
That means commemorating Thanksgiving by, according to the ACLU, beginning with a ‘land acknowledgement’.
“Start by acknowledging the land beneath you. All land in the United States is Indigenous land”
Like St. Matthew Island, Alaska. Which belongs to the ice.
“Challenge the false and harmful Thanksgiving origin story.”
Always the best way to start a family get-together.
“Many foods prepared for Thanksgiving are Indigenous foods: squash, corn, beans, pumpkins, and more. When Native people were violently removed from their land by white settlers, many Indigenous food traditions were lost. The forced displacement of Indigenous peoples was (and still is) a deliberate attempt to sever Indigenous people from their traditional ways of living, including food production and ceremony. However, many Indigenous-led movements are actively working to restore ancestral food practices. Native American people around the country have been reclaiming traditional foods, decolonizing their diets, and relearning how to use food as medicine to keep cultural food practices alive for generations to come.”
I didn’t realize Indians invented pumpkins. Or that eating a food gives you perpetual rights over it. I remember when the ACLU at least pretended to be reality based, but now it has to sing the same woo-woo about the magical wisdom of any people that didn’t invent the wheel.
Actively affirm that anti-racism and decolonization work is the responsibility of everyone not only during Thanksgiving, but always.
Actively affirm that the ACLU and its members are forever barred from your Thanksgiving meal.

All ACLU members should sign their property deeds over to the nearest tribe of indigenous people.
If those 15th and 16th century injuns had a bigger defense budget, they’d still be in charge.
